Plastic comb binding is one of these things, where the worst solution became the most widespread one. Thankfully, it became less popular now.
There are twin wires at the pitch of plastic comb available (Spiral-O and ibiwire). Paging through a document works great with these, but they have their own disadvantages, like bent loops.
Another attempt was a click-binder "ZipBind" by GMC, but the spines and loops are a bit bulky. Depending on the actual size of the punched slots in the paper, turning the pages can become a pain.
The craziest attempt was a flat filament spiral called "Komtrak Inspiral". But at such a coarse pitch, spiral binding looks a bit strange. Unfortunately, I never got my hands on these, so I can't tell how these work in real-life.

Hans
That should have been "GBC", not GMC.
DeleteAnd by the way: The View Master album looks more like Smurf Leather?
