A couple of recent second-hand purchases have come with personal ephemera in the pockets: address stickers; needle & thread; photo-me photo, presumably of a sweetheart; receipts, etc.
ReplyDeleteOne binder came full of research into various, apparently unconnected, WW2 RAF aircrew.
What unusual things have you found?
Not unusual things, but I just went through a planner lot that I won on ebay, but forgot about the box until I stumbled across it about a week ago.
DeleteFive non-major-brand planners: A silver zippered Mini format, a pink Succes Mini format, one Pocket and two Personal formats. I just checked my shopping journal and found out that I won the lot in 2018 for 16 Euro including shipping. The two Mini ones are really amazing, but not exactly my style. I am torn between feeling guilty for not using them, and maybe having saved them from the trash bin.
Hans
found a single wrapped "pill" in a holborn which i flushed immediately. would have loved to get the opinion of a drug sniffer dog but that would have meant a lot of explaining 😉 books bought at flea markets are also a source of interesting paperwork
DeleteI've found some of my own things in pockets that I had forgotten about.
DeleteIn my Winchester I found a few blank sheets of writing paper with our own address on the header.
The phone number was a bit of a give away as to how old it was the code was just 0892 instead of 01892 ! The code for the Tunbridge Wells exchange...
A security pass (for Gloucester Council), probably dating from the 1980s. Complete with signature.
DeleteAn Amex payment slip complete with address (same person, same organiser)
A very personal note from someone else (same person again).
People should really be more careful!
All securely disposed of, you'll be glad to hear.
Last year I got a light brown mini Cross Filofax in not too terrible conditions that I paid 1 euro for at a flee market. Inside I found a train ticket from Nottingham dated (if I remember correctly) November 2003 (curious since I live in northern Spain) and there also was a carnet photo of a blond woman. For a while I envisioned this woman traveling to the UK and buying this little Filofax to keep notes on her travels. Sadly, I can imagine she saw how quickly the Cross model deteriorates and she probably stopped using it and donated it. Nonetheless, I appreciate having it in my collection.
ReplyDeleteSome years ago I picked up a Gloucester binder filled with meticulous records of Crossley vehicles laid out on multi-fold sheets. I must try to find an enthusiasts group and send them the lot.
ReplyDeleteOne binder I bought contained a floor plan for a flat circa 1920, and a risqué hand drawn cartoon!
