Guest Posts on Philofaxy

Over the years we have amassed quite a collection of guest posts on Philofaxy. Take a look at them all here.

We really encourage people to submit a post or a series of posts. Obviously the post(s) have to be about Filofax or ring bound or disc bound planners. No click bait advertising casinos or similar!

If you would like to submit a post email philofaxy at gmail dot com initially to share what your post is about.

Sending in the post is easy, just put the text in to an email, attach the images to the email or in different emails. Indicate in the text where each image should be located and we will look after the rest.

If you can't think of a guest post, how about sending in an image for Silent Sunday, we always welcome contributions to that on-going series. Just email your image in and we will slot it in to the next available Sunday with credit to you of course.

Thank you.

  1. I was about to ask, as I would have many special topics. Is there some howto or style guide regarding Guest posts?

    My main thoughts and questions:
    - What is the minimum /maximum / recommended pixel size?
    - Is there a preferred aspect ratio, especially for Silent Sunday submissions?
    - How about copyright lettering and similar? I have developed my own style with frame and "textile lebel" add-on, but I could as well provide plain images or a more subtle lettering.

    My special topics:
    - Hole spacings, of course
    - Hole punching options
    - Japanese 9.5mm pitch (ring count A4:30, JIS-B5:26, A5:20 etc.)
    - Cross-fit solutions like Succes Mini and Filofax Mini, or my current plans Succes Senior and Org Junior (A6 narrow 148x95).

    1. Thank you for your response.

The maximum pixel size on any side is 1600 pixels, minimum I would say is 1000, either way they should attach to emails with no big issue.

Landscape is preferred rather than portrait. What ever the aspect ratio they will fit the blog theme.

You can add copyright lettering if you wish as long as it is not too intrusive.

There isn't a 'style guide' as such, we prefer that the author writes in their own style not matching how the regular contributors write. My own style is to keep paragraphs short in length and to break up text as much as possible, this is down to my past life of a technical report writer/editor!

    2. Thanks for the details. That means a simple paragraphed text and plain images of the stated pixel size will be enough. I assume notes about where the images should go within the parapgraphs would be helpful.

Are there any preferences among the topics mentioned above? Other topics could be paper cutters (roller cutter, lever cutter, stack cutter) or corner rounding, where I own a model for 10mm cut height with replaceable tools (three radius options, straight cut, half-moon thumb hole).

Besides that, I have a collection of planner size data from back in 2012, updated sporadically since then. But the data should still be valid.

    3. Yes I normally suggest people put the text in to an email and add notes in to the text such as [image_123.jpg] or [image1] etc at the appropriate paragraph break.

I tend to describe the contents of the photo before we get to the photo when scrolling through the post.

  2. I can’t believe it’s nearly ten years since I last wrote a guest post. I know Steve really appreciates contributions and I would encourage readers to participate, rather than leave it to others. Don’t worry about style or presentation. You’ll see that variety is welcomed.

    1. Thank you Tim, yes variety is very welcome, I'm sure my writing style isn't pleasing to everyone, but it is what it is...
