Free For All Friday No. 877 by Eve

As summer winds down and Fall starts peeking over the horizon, planner lovers everywhere know what that means...IT'S TIME TO START THINKING ABOUT NEXT YEAR'S PLANNER!! Woohoo!

Whether you’re sticking with what you've been using, are curious about trying a new size, or you're considering a completely different, fresh setup, this is the season of possibility for us planner addicts as Fall catalogs and new releases start to come out from our favorite planner brands.

There’s something exciting about those crisp, blank inserts waiting to be filled with plans, goals, notes and dreams. Choosing your next planner isn’t just about staying organized, it’s about setting the tone for the new year ahead.

So tell me, have you started to give any thought to what are YOU will be choosing for 2026? Will you stay true to your trusty Filofax or Franklin Covey, or will you be branching out to try a new style, size, or system?

As always on Fridays, feel free to discuss anything you'd like.

  1. That's a mighty interesting planner in that photograph.

    1. Definitely. It's funny, but I first noticed the not so obvious part of that AI fail. Well, at least I hope it is AI. But you never know what todays product designers come up with.

  2. A question for any users of the Filofax "Month on One Page Diary with Notes". How are people using this refill? Are there any shorthand hacks, or colour-coding schemes etc. for making this practical as a planning overview?
I am asking because I might be able to carry a slimline Filofax, where a full-size Personal would not be practical.
Any suggestions or ideas appreciated :-)

    1. I use the MO1P/notes in my compact Filofax. I mark the boxes with a highlighter dot (birthdays, appointments etc.) and then use the notes page to write down the details. It seems to work well and I find it is a useful, practical planner insert.

  3. I have bought two Quo Vadis books this year for the first time and am switching out of only using ringed binders.
One is a 2026 Daily A5 which I have bought a VDS codex A5 to wrap around it.
I’ve also bought a dotted A5 life journal. I plan to use the former to write my journal instead of my A5 Classic Croc. The latter I’ve started to use already as a bullet type journal to get plans, ideas, trackers etc into one place.
I bought an A5 leather cover by Aspinals for the Life Journal from eBay not realising that it’s designed for a soft cover, smaller width book like a Moleskin and the Quo Vadis doesn’t quite fit. I’m making the best of it anyway but I’ve got in a minor funk that the VDS won’t fit around the Daily correctly - I’ve measured things more than once but until it actually arrives I’ll be in a state of tension!!

  4. It’s always a difficult decision what size organiser to go for - bigger or smaller, or stay the same. Thinner or fatter is another choice to be made. Personally, I find that autumn is too soon to decide. I’ve still got lots of 2025 goals and tasks to fulfil and don’t want to be distracted by yet more change. I tend to wait until December to think about the next year, although I accept there’s always the risk that certain dated insert leaves may be sold out by then.

  5. I've been using my Filofax a5 notebook a lot recently for work and am tempted to use it as a planner. I love the paper for it. I am, however, worried about the capacity. Does anyone happen to know if there are any larger capacity but similar covers? I'm happy to switch to discs, but I would like the entire notebook spine covered, if possible. I wish Filofax made something more like a clip book size for these notebooks!
