  1. I’ve been trying to hold off and not buy one, but I’ve given in and purchased my first ever Van Der Spek. I’ve gone for an A5 codex in Janet Avacado on the outside, Janet Velvet Undyed on the inside with contrasting stitching in the same shades. Dark brown lining. I’ve bought a Daily 21 for 2026 to go inside and plan to switch to journaling in a non ring binder to see if I prefer it. I’ve been looking into what notebook/diary would be best and decided that I want to have a whole year in one place rather than only part of a year. Given the amount of Filofax I have it’s a bit of a folly but I’d like to try something new.

    1. Good choice!! I don't think you will be disappointed. The Daily 21 works beautifully with fountain pen. Be aware though that the paper is coated so the ink can take a little longer to dry on it. But it doesn't soak in.
I have found that that format works well for me. As you might have seen with my post last week, I'm been using them for a number of years!
And look forward to getting your Van der Spek Codex. I use mine for my Journal.

    2. Thank you Steve. I was swayed by your recent post on the daily 21, I thought ‘if it’s good enough for Steve…’ !!. I’ve been trying to figure out if the hype around Hobochini is well founded. It looked very well done but I wasn’t swayed that it was particularly better than the Daily 21, maybe it’s just me.

I’ve watched some videos on Gillio and Van Der Spek and I liked the ones where you and Janet Carr visited Van Der Spek in 2014, so many beautiful binders and bags. It looked a fantastic day. I went toward Van Der Spek as the price/ quality was right and I like their attention to detail.
I was swayed on the colour by a video on YouTube from ‘Dana’s Desk’ where she contrasts the Avacado against Thuya. I wanted green as I’ve done reds, blues and browns to death. Dana doesn’t have loads of fillers but her videos are good.
I’m looking forward to it all arriving now. 😊
