  1. I’ve started using my old filofax (Personal) as a notebook recently and was wondering if anyone else is doing that too and perhaps has some nifty ideas to share?

  2. This year I have made a big shift away from using my personal Filofaxes for notes. I have been concentrating on planning in them and action management.
Instead I either use an A5, or if on the move, a Pocket. The reason for this is that I struggled to find a way to properly file and manage the notes from the Personal size.
3 x 5 index cards fit perfectly in a pocket size and I use a zettelkasten approach. With the index cards in the Pocket binder I can use it like a pocket notebook and then index up each card and file them in a index card box.
Similarly with the A5 binder, the large 8 x 5 index cards come up small but are perfectly practical and I file these in an index card cabinet in the same way.
I do keep one Personal sized organiser for some very specific notes. I fill this with Basildon Bond writing paper, cut down with a paper guillotine (the Duke and Quattro are roughly the same height as the personal inserts and work well if that is all you have in the binder).

    1. That’s interesting! I’ve read about Zettelkasten, but it feels a bit too late to start one now. :) Also I hadn’t thought of making my on notepages using Basildon Bond paper, but I do have a large stack of their blue Airmail pads for letter writing and I have recently bought myself a 6-ring hole punch, so I might steal that idea.
I regularly need to take notes from a variety of sources for a talk or similar in work and since I don’t want to clog up my ordinary work notebook with that sort of stuff, I’ve previously used A5 scrap paper or Traveller’s Notebook inserts, for my temporary notes. Scrap paper is flexible but the loose pieces of paper tend to go missing, whereas the TN inserts are quite expensive and you can’t move the notes about when you plan your presentation- Since I already have a filofax with quite a lot of leftover note paper, I thought it would be a neater, cheaper way of achieving the same thing and I can work on a few different topics at the same time in the same notebook.
