Date for your diary - 5 August 2018

We are going to run another conference round-table voice/video chat using Skype.

When? - Sunday 5 August at the following times:
  • London 10:00 am,
  • Paris 11:00 am,
  • Brisbane 7:00 pm time.
Additionally we will be on line later in the day at the following times:
  • Los Angeles 8:00 am,
  • Denver 9:00 am
  • Dallas 10:00 am,
  • New York 11:00am,
  • London 4:00 pm
  • Paris 5:00 pm etc.
The timing of these two sessions have been chosen to hopefully allow as many people to join in compared to previous round-tables.

Do not worry if you aren't available at the start of one of our sessions each one lasts 2-3 hours so pop up when you are available and say hello.

Where? - an on-line chat using Skype. with voice and video (if you wish)

What do I need? - just a micro-phone and some head phones(in ear phones work fine) and a free Skype account. Using headphones or earphone reduces 'echo' on the call. Video is optional, but a few of us will be on video as well.

Who - All of you... connect up with Philofaxy and we will attempt to get as many of us linked in to the audio conference as possible. Come and listen if you don't want to chat.  What do we talk about? Filofax stuff... but anything else as well. It's like long lost friends meeting up for coffee and a catch up.. but don't worry if you have never joined in before... you are an old friend too!

If you have any questions you want to ask then please let us know in the group or before we start.

How -
  1. Connect to Philofaxy by firstly searching for Philofaxy in Skype, I will then add you as a contact.
  2. Then  'Send Contact Request',  I will then add you in to the chat room.
  3. Then if you request it, I can add you to the audio conference as well. But if you just want to chat via keyboard that's fine. That way it's slightly less hectic for me!
Come and join in the fun, even if you only pop in to say hello... but don't be afraid to join in the discussion.

As with previous round-tables there will also be a parallel text chat room going at the same time as the voice conference, so you can listen to the voice chat and type if you wish, just mute your microphone in Skype

If you need any assistance setting up Skype, please pop a comment in this post and I will try and help you get one line. Skype is free for computer to computer calls....

Here is my post on how to improve your Skype audio with headphones or a headset.

Hope to be chatting with you on Sunday 5 August 2018.

Blue

We all have a favourite colour? For me it is the colour blue, I don't know why, but from an early age I can always remember preferring the colour blue, when I had a choice of picking things myself.

I used to support a couple of football teams whose colours were blue (Everton and Tranmere Rovers) but my love of football was a fairly short lived thing.

I've owned three or four blue cars, including our current one.

I have a lot of blue shirts and of course some blue jeans...

However, not many blue organisers. I've never really thought about it before now but why aren't there more blue organisers? I know Filofax have had quite a few in the past and there are some in their current range.

Here is three in my collection.

A blue and black Filofax personal size Fusion, my A5 Gillio Compagna in dark blue and my Van der Spek blue and grey custom standard size (personal size).

These three are very different in character/features, but I love them all for different reasons.

What is your favourite colour for an organiser?

Free For All Friday No 506 by Laurie

As I've said many times, one of the things I love most about using a Filofax is the flexibility of having whatever pages I need at the moment, and switching them out the instant I need to change them instead of having to wait until the end of the year to change my planner.

My most recent example: A few months ago I added monthly Expenses pages in my Finances tabbed section. I intended to use these pages to track unexpected or out of the ordinary expenses that month, to get a realistic idea of where my money goes. I wouldn't put things on these pages like groceries or utilities payments (because I track regular monthly expenses already). These pages were for things like new tires on my car, new hiking boots, or printer ink.

To be honest I didn't have high hopes for my ability to stay with this. Writing in expenses is a hassle and I found it hard to keep up with. After a couple of months I abandoned these pages and decided to just check my expenses online more often.

It was no big deal to remove the pages from my binder, and I'm not stuck with unused pages for the rest of the year! Joy!

(And for those of you who are interested, I'm still using my Upcoming Bills pages I described here. In fact those are working so well for me I've already printed them through 2020 to capture upcoming bills as I find out about them.)

Which pages have you recently added or removed from your Filofax?

And as always on Fridays, feel free to ask and/ or discuss anything ring binder organizer related!

Philofaxy Meet Up - London - September 2018

If you have already emailed me to reserve a place and I replied, there is no need to email me again. But in case anyone else would like to come in September, here are the details once again....

I am planning a visit to London in September 2018.

This event is open to everyone, there are no qualifying requirements... if you enjoy good company and you like organisers of any brand then you will be very welcome and you will be amongst friends.

London - Saturday 29th September 2018

So this is a 'calling notice' for people who would like to attend the Philofaxy Meet Up in London

Please read all of the post before you apply for a place on the meet up.

When and Where

We will meet initially at 12 noon at Vapiano in Great Portland Street. This is not far from Oxford Circus underground station.

We have visited this venue before.  They have a great ordering system which uses a smart card to record the items you order from the bar or food counter. When you pay the bill you will only be paying for the items you ordered and there's no additional service charge. Because of the flexibility on their ordering and payment system, you will be able to easily pay with cash or card. If you are slightly late it won't be quite so critical.

You can read all about the restaurant on their website here

During the meal there will be plenty of time for chatting and sharing Filofax organisers...

Our meet up will finish at about 5:30pm

How to book a place on the meet up

To get a place on the meet up you need to email: steve[at]philofaxy[dot]com and mark your email 'September 2018 London Meetup', you can book a place straight away.

As places are allocated you will receive an email back again confirming your place on the meet up.

Please do not book travel tickets etc until you have a confirmed place. I will attempt to confirm places within 2-3 hours of receiving your email.

Additional Information

If you aren't familiar with London or how to get to Vapiano from the station you are arriving at then use the Transport for London Journey Planner, it's generally quite good.

Once we have our full list of people, we will exchange email addresses and if you aren't familiar with London you might be able to get someone to meet you at the station you are arriving at.

Your safety on the day and your enjoyment on the day is of paramount importance to me, so don't be afraid to ask any questions by email, I want everyone who attends to get the most from the day.

Thank you... any questions?

A6 Inserts

'Where can I get A6 inserts from?' another question that pops up a lot in the Facebook groups and in my in-box on a fairly regular occurrence.

So here a list of sources for A6 inserts which I have split in to 'Download and Print Yourself' and 'Printed'

Download and Print Yourself

You might need some help to print your own inserts available here: Printing A6 Inserts/Pages

Printed

Printed but not A6

The following inserts are not true A6 size. However, they are the correct ring spacing. They are narrower, but they will be fine in an un-widened Van der Spek Senior.

Naturally inclusion in this list does not mean that we personally recommend or endorse any of the sellers included.

We will do our best to keep the list up to date. Please let us know of any new suppliers or any dead links in the list. Thank you.

Free For All Friday - No. 505

I published Episode 75 yesterday of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Plannerverse.

These are a fun to record, but a lot of work behind the scenes afterwards. Fortunately I have worked out a work flow I go through each time so hopefully I don't miss something or miss a link etc.

Having a set work flow helps to streamline the time it takes to prepare the finished recording. Some take longer than others though and there's no avoiding that.

We always ask if people have any ideas for future episodes or even repeat previous topics, just leave a comment or drop me an email.

And as it is Friday you can of course discuss anything related to ring bound organisers.

Have a great weekend.
