Free For All Friday - No. 725 by Steve

I have just returned from a long stay in UK visiting family and friends. There was due to be a Philofaxy Meet Up, sadly this had to be cancelled... not due to lack of interest, but it clashed with firstly a train strike and after that was called off, it would have been the weekend before the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

It just didn't feel like the right thing to do, to hold a meet up just before such a sombre occasion as the funeral of the monarch. With thousands of people visiting London to pay their last respects to the Queen, the trains were full to capacity from what I've heard from friends that ventured in to London that weekend.

Today I'm going to be unpacking and getting back in to my normal routine here in France. But my organiser travelled with me and I've been assembling a list of jobs to get done on my return! It never seems to stop!

Do you take your organiser when you go away? Do you change size or just use your current  size?

As it is Friday, of course you are free to discuss anything Filofax related. Have a good weekend.

Future Podcast/Plannercast Topics

We have been 'broadcasting' since February 2016, with 130 episodes published already and a few more in the pipeline to be recorded in the coming weeks as time allows.

The podcast is now available on Spotify and Google Podcasts, in addition to the usual sources. So what ever device or app you use, you should be able to find us. See the full list here, each one holds all of the previous episodes:
You don't have to go back to the first one, we have tried to make each one a complete episode and we attempt to avoid mentioning when it was recorded, so you can dip in to and listen to them in any order and listen to just the episodes that interest you.

We have a Patreon page for people to be able to donate a small amount of money or more if they wish. The money helps to support the podcast team (Karine and Steve) and the money is used to pay for services we use to publish the podcast episodes as well as equipment and service updates to keep the quality of the podcast as high as possible.

We are giving Patrons some exclusive content and the ability to listen to new episodes a few days earlier than others. We will always keep them free to listen to generally. However, the subscription income helps us to keep the podcast 'advert free' without advert breaks and annoying 'plugs' for non-relevant companies etc.

If you have any ideas for future episodes even if it is a topic we might have previously discussed please email steve at philofaxy dot com  and the email will find its way to Karine and Steve.

Thank you everyone for your continued support.

Free for All Friday No. 724 by Nan

Sort of related to Anita's Free for All Friday a few weeks ago, I've also tried using bound journals from time to time during the past couple of years, and have always returned to a ring-bound organizer. There are a number of reasons I find that rings work better, but the number 1 is that I have multiple projects and pursuits going at once. Having movable pages makes it possible for me to juggle whatever my current priorities require.

What's your #1 reason for coming back to your tried-and-true organizer format (whatever it may be)?

As always on Friday, feel free to discuss any other organizer-related topic you wish!

Diary Inserts for 2023 and Beyond (recap)

Have you decided yet what inserts you are going to use next year? Have you sourced them yet? Have you started using them already?

I hope I've not caused you to have a panic attack, yes I know we are in to the last 14 weeks or so of 2022.

Let me recap what we have to offer here at Philofaxy for you to download and use.

You will find all the diary inserts for 2023 on this page. If you have already got your 2023 inserts sorted out, you might want to get ready for 2024 as well. Those inserts are available on this page

As a bonus for visiting the pages scroll past the 2024 inserts to find the 2025 inserts

Please visit those pages to see the full list of inserts available.

Please note that the previews will not show the current year. We only update those when a design changes so some will show some previous years.

As you will recall we have rationalised the list of ready to print files available. However, the previous full list of source files are still available and listed on those pages as well.

Any broken links or incorrect links please report them to Steve, thanks. The page was hand edited/crafted.

For a detailed explanation of how to understand and use the new format files. Please revisit this earlier post.

If you are using some of our older format files, I did a guide on how to use those files here

If you get stuck, don't panic or get stressed out about it, get in touch with Steve and I will be more than happy to help you out and get you set up with a set of files for 2023.

Pottering with my Filofax

Potter (verb) - to move around without hurrying, and in a relaxed and pleasant way. US may use putter instead.

Growing up in a family business meant that there was always work to be done. As a child, I enjoyed helping out, but could see the pressure that was on my parents, so I think that's why I love it when I can take my time to potter about.

I admit that for a while, I was a bit addicted to reading productivity blogs etc., but recently I've fallen in love again with getting things done in a more relaxed fashion. For me, it's that kind of rainy afternoon feeling when you're not in a rush, when you want to get something done, but don't have a deadline. At these times, my Filofax is my faithful companion, as I often find that this can be when I'm most inspired as I'm relaxed and not trying too hard. It's all about doing small and easier tasks at a slower pace, with bonus points for eating cake at the same time!

These are my tools for my pottering sessions:

  1. Tote bag with a plastic bag inside - for picking up rubbish or recycling, or anything I might want to move elsewhere
  2. Kensington - for writing down notes, as I'll often think of something completely unrelated, or have ideas about current projects etc.
  3. iPod and headphones
  4. Hot drink and a snack
  5. Magazine holder - this was gifted to me as I'd originally planned to use it to help me catch up on some reading, but it's the perfect size to carry around the house and pop any items in that need moving.

On purpose, I'm not attempting to do things on my to-do list, but I'm wandering about the house, putting items away and maybe reading a book for a while before returning it to the shelf. I often find that when my pottering time is up that I've actually achieved quite a bit, and been inspired on some different projects that I'd maybe previously gotten a bit stuck on.

Free For All Friday No 723 by Laurie

Last weekend the coffin of Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was transported from her beloved Balmoral estate through Royal Deeside to Aberdeen, where she then turned south and journeyed to Edinburgh before she was later flown to London. I am very lucky that I live along the route, and I was able to see her coffin being driven right past my house.

We watched her progress live on television, seeing the motorcade driving through all the nearby villages we go through all the time, and our home town. It was very special to see her final journey through this beautiful area that is our home.

When we saw on the live television coverage that the motorcade was getting close to our house, we went out to the roadside to watch it go past. While my son and I were out at the side of the road watching the vehicles go by, helicopter footage following the Queen's progress through Scotland showed us live on television. Friends of ours sent me screenshots from their television of the moment the hearse was right in front of us. My husband, who was on the other side of the world at that moment on a business trip, saw us live on television, standing there next to our house, with the Queen's hearse driving along our road.

To see in person the Queen's final journey through this place she loved so much really made me feel like I was experiencing history firsthand. It is such a significant moment in this country where I live, and to experience the collective grief and loss gives me a feeling of solidarity. I feel truly privileged to have had such an experience.

Of course I wrote everything in my Filofax. I have written some very important things in my Filofax over the years: significant events in our family, trips and holidays, and news items of the day. But rarely have I experienced firsthand something so globally historic and been able to write about it in my Filofax.

As always, feel free to ask and/ or discuss anything Filofax related.
