Landmark Life Events....

You know you are getting old when you realise that your next birthday will be 50 years since you became a teenager.. Yep that's me!

I got thinking the other day, what dates in the year 1972 should I celebrate that made an impact on my life all these years later?

It was that year that I really started to take an interest in pop music for various reasons. And looking at my album collection of what music I still listen to 50 years later, a lot of it was first released from 1972 onwards.

I did some further research on the dates or at least the months when particular albums were released and I've started to make notes of these in my organiser.

I then started looking at films (movies) that came out back then. Most of them you will see at Christmas on TV! All the old favourites.

March this year it is 50 years since 'Dirty Harry' was first shown, the Clint Eastwood Police film with the infamous line 'Make my day punk' ! Call me old fashioned but they don't make them like that any more!!!

This is starting to build up in layers of things to remember, I might have to resort to using a separate nostalgia month per page diary insert!

Do you remember dates from the past in your organiser?

Free For All Friday - No. 688 by Steve

If you have more than a few organisers, do you have any favourites?

The ones you always come back to after a brief break from whilst you have used others in your 'collection'

They are also the ones you will never sell or giveaway no matter what their flaws are!

I'm often asked so 'How many do you own....?' and I reply and then the obvious follow question comes up, 'Which is your favourite?'

Well the picture to the above I think sums up my favourites. My two Van der Spek Custom A5's. The older dark brown one has 35mm rings in it and I use it as my 'reference organiser' it has all my maps and information pages in it. Stuff I need to hand when I'm at home or as a safe storage place between travels.

The lighter brown A5 is my constant companion with my planner and a few notes pages in it, but not a lot else. It has things stored in the pockets I need if I'm out and about. Although I don't always carry this with me.

So what is your favourite? But as it is a Friday don't forget you are more than welcome to discuss anything organiser related.

Have a great weekend.

Philofaxy Diary Inserts - Year Calendar

Creative Commons License
This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. Please download, adapt, use, share, but do not charge or use commercially.

I've had a couple of requests for these. They aren't created in quite the same way as our other diary inserts so please pay attention to the explanation.

These are created from an Excel file. You can print them off directly from within the file. Or copy and paste them in to Word as the cover page for your existing diary insert.

With the Personal size calendar you might have to tailor it to fit with your printer when printing on to Personal size page. This is because of the size of the bottom margin required on some printers.

In 2022, you could remove the bottom row of July, August, September as there is nothing in those days. In other years you will find a clear row like this possibly in other months depending on the start day of the year etc.

The one Excel file covers A4, A5 and Personal size just different tabs of the file, just enter the year in B4 of the 'Front Page' tab in the Excel File and then look at the other tabs for the size of your choice.

As ever thanks to Ray at "My Life All in One Place" for sharing his knowledge with us.

Free For All Friday No 687 by Laurie

I wrote the date for this FFAF into my Filofax back in October 2020. Steve set the posting schedule for 2021 then, and included this week's FFAF.

Back in October 2020 as I made a note that I would be the one writing this week's FFAF, I wondered what the world would be like now.

At that time, the UK was in the beginning of its "second wave." That was before the Alpha variant, which was more transmissible than the original virus, and Delta variant which was even more transmissible than that, were widely circulating. It was before the vaccines were available, and there was a lot of uncertainty at that time.

We have all been through a lot since then. Vaccines are widely available in many countries, but still not in other countries. The current prevalent variant is Omicron, and there is a lot we still don't know.

I apologize to everyone who prefers to keep their planner hobby free from depressing current events. I know I use my love of Filofax and other planners as an escape.

But I couldn't pass up this opportunity to reflect on what has happened since October 2020, as I wrote "FFAF 687" onto my Filofax page for Friday January 7th, 2022. I nod to my past self and reflect on all the things I didn't know would happen.

I would love to write something about being able to weather adversity and hold onto optimism, but the reality is I have just been holding onto the side of the raft as we all thrash through the rapids, waves swirling around us, glimpses of sky as the valley walls flash by. Uncertainty is still my prevalent feeling.

I have written into my Filofax that the last FFAF that I will be the author of this year is scheduled for December 9, 2022 (FFAF 735). I wonder what the world will be like then, and what we will all have experienced by then. I hope we will all have a better year this year.

As always on Fridays, feel free to discuss anything Filofax related.
