Free For All Friday No 707 by Laurie

Believe it or not, I am already planning events more than a year from now. I'm making reservations and writing in dates 13 months from now, and more.

I keep far-future planning pages in my Filofax for just such things. I have monthly pages all the way through 2024. I use the Philofaxy month on two pages free printables, and I print them single-sided so the backs of the pages are blank. I stuck on month tabs (I like the ones from Personal Planner but loads of businesses sell them) so I can flip easily to the right month. Between the months I add in pages for planning or notes related to anything happening that month, so that when I arrive at that month, everything I need to know is already there.

Do you do far-future planning in your Filofax? What system do you have for planning beyond the current year?

And as always on Fridays, feel free to ask and/ or discuss anything Filofax related!

Malden - New Release

Filofax have today released a new Malden Pink range.

As far as the colour goes it is a definite pink, not a washed out pastel colour or a neon bright pink, a fairly neutral pink I would say.

They are making it available in all the usual sizes, Mini, Pocket, Personal and A5.

See it today at Filofax UK

Philofaxy

Welcome to Philofaxy.

If you are new to the site or you have been here for a while, this post is a way to show you around so you get the most from the site.

As you might have seen there is a lot of information on here and you might have problems remembering where everything is, so we hope to be able to help you out with how to find things to get the most out of the site.

So looking at the Home page you are on now, below the banner you will see: Home, About, Adspot etc

Home: Takes you back to the start page from where ever you are on the site, clicking on the banner does the same.

About: How to contact us at Philofaxy and some background on the contributors.

Ad Spot: This is our readers advert page, you can place a wanted or for sale advert for your Filofax goods here free of charge. However, we do recommend donating to one of our favourite charities, but it's based on an honesty system, we don't check up on who has made donations and who hasn't.  This page is great because you are buying from people that do understand the Filofax range unlike some Ebay sellers...

Catalogues: We have scans of previous Filofax catalogues with the some very old examples and most of the recent ones available in normal and high definition. See the Catalogues page.

File of Facts: This is a book about Filofax and other brands of ring bound organisers published by Steve in 2022. You will find information about the book and buying links on this page.

Diaries: We have a large range of printable diary inserts for all sizes of Filofax organisers. The  2020 inserts are available here, with the 2023 ones also available here.

Files: This the home for all our downloadable template files which you are welcome to customise to your own needs or just print them off as they are.

Links: Links to lots of blogs and other Filofax related sites.

Suppliers: Looking for a Filofax or inserts or accessories, then this page is a good place to start.

Searching Philofaxy -  With in excess of 5600 posts on Philofaxy spread over 17 years, finding exactly the information you want could be quite a task... however we do have some tools to help you:
  • Search - Pop a key word in to the search box in the sidebar and the search tool will find all of the posts with that keyword in it.
  • Labels - Further down the sidebar you will find the label cloud again this will find all the posts with those labels on the posts. We try to label all posts, although some of the earlier ones are unlabelled... another job still to be done!
Subscribing to Philofaxy
  • RSS - You can add Philofaxy to your favourite RSS reader such as Protopage.
  • Email - If you want to receive each post by email, pop your email in to the subscribe by email box  and follow the instructions. This service is provided by an external service. They will send you a verification email which you have to click a link in to confirm your email address in the usual way.
Philofaxy on the Web
  • Facebook - You will find our Facebook page here
  • There is a very active Facebook group here
  • Twitter - We are very active on Twitter as @philofaxy
  • Linking back to Philofaxy - If you would like to link back to Philofaxy from your website or blog we have a 'badge' with the exact code which you will find at the bottom of the side bar.
  • Instagram - Steve is on Instagram as MrPhilofaxy
Regular Posts on Philofaxy
  • Free For All Tuesday - Questions and Answers on any Filofax related topic
  • Free For All Friday - General discussion, open house for anything Filofax related
  • Webfinds - Each weeks round up of other Filofax related posts on the web
Other Philofaxy Events
  • Meet Ups - We have held several very successful meet ups, they vary in size from as little as two or three people up to twelve people, these have been held in London, New York, France, Holland, with other ones planned for other countries around the world.  Although meeting 'people off the internet' can sometimes seem a little odd, we all have at least one interest in common and everyone I've met at all the different meet ups have been great people to sit and chat with.
Guest Posts on Philofaxy
We welcome people to do guest posts on Philofaxy, but they must be about ring bound planners of some type or be associated with planners, time management in some way. We do not respond to requests to post links along with guest posts about pensions, raising a family, investment opportunities in the Scilly Isles, etc. etc.... yes we get frequent offers like this in the Philofaxy in-box!  If you would like to do a genuine guest post this post will be a great help to you.

Plannercast/Podcast

We have been 'broadcasting' since February 2016, with 126 episodes published already.

The podcast is now available on Spotify and Google Podcasts, in addition to the usual sources. So what ever device or app you use, you should be able to find us. See the full list here, each one holds all of the previous episodes:

You don't have to go back to the first one, we have tried to make each one a complete episode and we attempt to avoid mentioning when it was recorded, so you can dip in to and listen to them in any order and listen to just the episodes that interest you.

We have a Patreon page for people to be able to donate a small amount of money or more if they wish. The money helps to support the podcast team (Karine and Steve) and the money is used to pay for services we use to publish the podcast episodes as well as equipment and service updates to keep the quality of the podcast as high as possible.

We are giving Patrons some exclusive content and the ability to listen to new episodes a few days earlier than others. We will always keep them free to listen to generally. But the subscription income helps us to keep the podcast 'advert free' without advert breaks and annoying 'plugs' for non-relevant companies etc.

Thank you everyone for your continued support.

If you have any ideas for future episodes even if it is a topic we might have previously discussed please email podcast at philofaxy dot com  and the email will find its way to Karine and Steve.

That was a bit of a lightening tour around the site and some of our activities. Please do add a comment on to posts, we love to get feedback and we do read all the comments.

Free For All Friday - No. 706 by Anita

Life has been a bit full-on for the last number of years, so I'm currently in a bit of a recovery phase where I've been resting, starting to declutter more and looking for ways to simplify things. Unsurprisingly, that means that I've started to think about how I can simplify and review how I use my Filofaxes.

My current inventory:

  1. Pocket (A7) Moterm - unused as I've realised that pocket is too small for me
  2. Lefax City Slimline - unused
  3. Personal Kensington - my favourite that's been in use since January 2020 and still in this set up
  4. Custom standard Van der Spek - holding spare inserts
  5. Vintage non-branded (very similar to a Winchester) - unused
  6. A5 Original - in use since November 2020 for work
Whilst I own six in total, only two are in use on a regular basis (Kensington and Original), so I think that it's time for me to start rehoming the others.

I'm also going to try a couple of different set ups to help me catch up on some backlog projects, whilst using the Original still for work:
  • Using the Lefax slimline as my main binder, with the Kensington holding the old inserts that need to be processed
  • Everything in the Kensington - the first two sections will be for current lists and notes, with a third which will hold the backlog.

I'm looking forward to taking some action towards getting back up to date, and will write some posts on the set ups and how I'm getting on with them. I'm currently planning on rehoming three binders, so I now will decide which extra one that I'll be keeping, along with the two in use.

Have you recently been looking to simplify your set up or how many organisers that you use?

And as always on Fridays, please feel free to discuss anything organiser related. I hope that you have a great weekend.

What else is in your organiser?

Your diary insert is most probably the most important component of your organiser, or the most frequently  viewed pages and pages you up date the most often.

What else do you keep in your organiser? Here is a list of 'stuff' currently lurking in my own organiser.

  • Maps - I have always loved maps from a young age. I have them for France, London and transport ones too.
  • To Do Lists - Some long term things, my daily to-do tasks live on my planner pages.
  • Notes pages, these include my travel packing lists, I also keep a few sheets of blank lined paper here too.
  • Reference pages - These are fairly random in terms of the contents, but they contain pages that I've created or printed from various sources of miscellaneous information that I need to easily find without a computer being available. It is where my maps live as well. I also keep a copy of my Popular Paper Sizes chart in here too.
What else do you carry? What accessories do you include?
