  1. Does anyone know of super slim A5 formats?

The slimmest Filofax-ish seem to have 15mm rings, and I don't like the Plotter/Meeplus stye.

There is a Family Book standard with 30mm ring spacing and a page size of 200x130mm, using 8-9mm rings. But I haven't seen any genuine leather ones. For a start, I ordered one with linen cover to see how the rings and the format turn out.

  2. I searched for a super slim A5 for many years. I eventually made my own with a Flex by Filofax cover and Time Manager 13mm rings. I wrote a post about it on 12th 2012 and still have the binder.

The slimmest Filofax A5 was the Heritage with 15mm rings. However, when production was moved to India, Filofax opted for an inferior leather and changed the rings to 20mm. The binder is discontinued for 2026.

    1. Thanks for sharing this information, Tim. I found the two-part guest post, and check it in detail later.

There are many super-slim smaller than A5 models in Japan, so my hopes were high to find A5 as well. But for A5 and higher, small rings don't seem to be popular.

One example for the smaller formats is the Raymay Davinci Standard Bible with 8mm rings (JDB3007C): It has 20mm unsquished (16mm squished) thickness, and still has fully crafted interior with full-height half-width front and back pocket and two card slots on the front pocket.

    2. The "Family Book" ringbinder arrived.

It looks like the standard is designed to match A5 outer dimensions of 210x148mm. With a ring size of 8.2mm, this leaves 200x130mm for the inserts.
The cover is a bookcover-like card stock with linen (buckram?) outer finish and velours inside. The total thickness is 22mm.

The matching hole punch for the 6-ring 30mm spacing would be a Regur Holix 13, currently sold at 55-60 Euro.
