Video: Using a Malden Personal or Pocket as a wallet/organiser

For your enjoyment/amusement...

An evening with my Filofax

My Mum has come to stay for the week, and our plan for the evening was to collect her and then all of us to have dinner together. However, due to an accident's tailback it sounded like her coach could be delayed by anything up to three hours. My hubby didn't fancy hanging around all that time, so I had an unexpected evening to myself! As I got ready to go, I considered what to take with me and decided on my personal Malden and The Art of Happiness by HH the Dalai Lama.

After ordering a latte at the Italian restaurant, I settled comfortably in the corner with my book and Filofax. As the place filled up, I realised that I was surrounded my people on their gadgets. There was a man at the table next to me also dining alone, and he alternated his time between his phone and tablet. I sneakily had a look at other groups of people, and everywhere it seemed people had their phones out. I suppose that I felt very low tech sitting there with my paperback, Filofax and my basic Nokia phone.

I'm definitely not anti-gadget or technology, but I found that having a leisurely dinner whilst reading and making notes in my Filofax was very relaxing. After finishing my meal, I made my way to the closest pub to the coach stop and settled back down with my book and Filo. I thoroughly enjoyed my unplugged evening and will definitely be doing this again in the future.

Reader Under The Spotlight - Suzi

I'm Suzi.  I'm 32 and Im currently in my 3rd and final year of a Photographic Art course in University of South Wales, Newport.  I have just finished writing my dissertation which was based on selfies and self portraits!  I also have 2 jobs, both in offices, am attempting to start my own business once I have finished my evening course where Im training to be a nail tech and I run 2 blogs.  I have used a planner for most of my life, in many different shapes and sizes, colours, textures and brands.

To see projects I am working on and keep up to date visit www.art-reviewed.com or www.dreamnailartdesigns.com

1. When did you buy your first Filofax and what was it?

My first Filofax was a Personal sized Filofax Classic in pink, I have had this organizer for so long its hard to remember not having her in my life but I'd say I've had her since around 2004.  I bought her with wages from my first proper office job when I was made permanent as a way to celebrate!  I remember it making me feel so grown up!

2. What other brands have you used or considered using?

I have used loads of different brands, in primary school I owned a Fun Fax which progressed to a green and tan Collins organizer that I used through secondary school.  I then moved on to a purple and silver fake fur pocket organizer from Claires Accessories, then I ditched the organizer habit for a bit, choosing to use a pocket diary before returning to my Collins one for a bit before purchasing my Classic Filo. Since then I have tried a pocket purple Domino Filofax, a pocket Metropol and a pocket Saffino.  Currently I am using an A5 Paperchase pale pink organiser.

3. Out of the organisers you own which is your current favourite (Style and Size)?

Can I have two????  My A5 Paperchase organiser because of the size, I was struggling to fit everything onto the pages in my personal Classic Filofax, but I do love my Classic Filofax because it is so well made and has pockets for everything, and because she stands for so much in my life!

4. How many Filofax organisers do you own?

Two at the moment but I have my eye on most of the collection on the Filofax site at the moment that I wish I owned!

5. What is the oldest Filofax in your collection?

My Personal sized Classic Filofax! She must be around 10 years old now!

6. What do you use your Filofax for?

I use my Filofax for everything, uni notes, notes for my dissertation, shopping lists, work schedules, blog ideas, keeping track of important dates, college and uni timetables, holidays!  The list could go on and on!  Basically, it holds my life!  Id be lost without it!

7. What was the feature about Filofax you like most?

The feature I like the most about Filofax?  There are so many things, I like that they are a quality made item, the storage in them (the pockets are soo good for keeping things safe in!), that they are flexible and can be adapted to suit any lifestyle, for example when I was blogging only I found all I needed in my organizer was the current month, part of the previous month and paper to jot down ideas, as time has gone on I have been able to adapt and add or take out sections as needed.

8. If you could design your own Filofax what would it feature?

A concertina pocket that could expand if you needed the extra space and collapsed if you didnt need it, and outside pockets too!  :D

9. How do you carry your Filofax?

I carry my Filofax with me at all times, wherever I am, whether its work or home, in my bag, which is large enough to fit my organizer in, lunch, house keys and any other things I may need.

10. Which Filofax in the current range do you like the most? Are you going to buy it?

I'm lusting after the Original Filofax, A5 in fluro pink and also the Aston in purple!

11. What is the most you have ever spent on a Filofax? Which model?

My Classic, I can't remember how much it was though but at the time it was about a quarter to a 3rd of my wages!

12. What's your favourite Filofax tip or hack?

I use postcards between my week to view pages to hold any post its reminding me of things to do, or shopping to buy or other things that can't be tied to a day, it helps to keep my thoughts and ideas on track too and stops me writing something and forgetting about it!

13. Turning to Philofaxy, what do you like the most?

The friendliness of the people and that you can get good tips and tricks and guidance from other Philofaxy users (as a Facebook page) and as a website the host of information available and all the interesting things to read!  I'm there everyday having a catch up!  :D

14. And what do you not like about Philofaxy?

Is there anything not to like?

15. What was the last music track you downloaded or bought?

I bought Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger for my iphone!

16.  Mark Darcy or Daniel Cleaver?

Mark Darcy definitely! :)
