  1. When I was young I was given a hard bound diary every Christmas which I used the following year. Later I moved into Filofax and have pretty much used binders and folios by Filofax and standard sized paper inserts that go with it. All straight forward.
Recently I decided to have another go with bound diary/ planners and bought a Quo Vardis Daily 21 and a dotted Life Journal, both fantastic, one for a written journal and the other as a bullet planner. Then I decided to get a couple of covers to use that would transcend the years with new journal inserts slotted in as needed. Easy I thought, two A5 books need two A5 covers. How naïve I am!
I splurged on a VDS A5 codex for the Daily 21 which has worked out really well, that is because I copied Steve’s set up! I also bought a second hand Aspinals A5 cover to go around the Life Journal, only to find the cover is too skinny and the journal doesn’t fit width wise because the journal is fatter than an aspinal insert. I then bought a Large Moleskin to fit instead only to find the cover too big for that one and the book kept dropping out. Losing the will to live I have stapled some card onto the cover of the moleskin to make it wider and a snug fit into the ends of the cover. A compromise but it works and with some strategically placed washi tape it all looks respectable.
Back to the Life Journal, I bought a Hobonichi Cousin cover as that is a fatter cover for a chunkier journal. When that arrived it was also too small for the Life Journal, not as bad as before but it wouldn’t close - the will to stay alive ebbed away again, so I’ve cut just under 1cm off of the cover on each side to save my sanity and it’s now a lovely fit.
I’m obviously very poor at measuring up!
Am I missing a trick on how to get this right or is it a madness I’ve stumbled into?
