  1. WELL! Wasn't yesterday a great day for feeling smug about being a proponent of analogue systems 🙂 For all the convenience of digital systems, yesterday demonstrated just how fragile they can be.

I'm so glad I had my paper organiser to refer to. My digitally based clients weren't so fortunate.

  2. I had a chance to check out the new improved elasticated pen loop on the Malden yesterday. Much better and good to see.

Also looked at the Norfolks. I'm quite impressed. Leather is nice and I think it could become a modern classic - although not for a while, obviously!

I think Filofax are trying to respond to the challenge of upcoming competitors, and on this evidence they are succeeding. They do still need to get rid of the QR codes though. Sometimes its hard to admit you've made a mistake......

    More binders in stores please......

    2. The Malden & Norfolk are still painted or coated leather, though? And who knows what is actually under that paint...? Or how robust those coatings will prove.

    3. I’m a big fan of The Bridge leather bags and when I saw one of their personal organisers on eBay I bid for it and won. It is made from the most luscious leather and has a leather lining and pockets, I love it.

When I was at work I used a personal Time Manager which has slightly wider pages, I still have spare inserts for it and have bought more. But there is no room for tagged dividers in The Bridge organiser, so for dividers I bought PVC pockets and put relevant pictures back to back in each. That way I’ve got use to which section is which: Diary, Don’t Forget, Rough Book, House and Garden, Studio and Personal.

I’m hoping, with a regular clean and buff up with saddle soap, it will last me out.
      Kath

  3. Hi all. I have just picked up a 'Filofax Mini Organiser Real Leather'. These are the details on the inside cover and it look like a Finsbury in every way but with no model name as such. It has original notepaper in it dated 2006 and a QC code under the clasp of SHI. I am wondering if this could have been some type of prototype or similar. Everything else convinces me that this is genuine but just not sure from when/where? Any advice help would be very much appreciated. Thank you

  4. HI. I have just purchased a 'Filofax Mini Organiser Real Leather'. These are the details on the inside cover. It is pink and identical to a Finsbury design but there is no model named on the inside cover. Everything else about it is true to Filofax and it has a QC on the inside of the clasp of SHI or it could be SHP. It has Filofax 2006 notepaper inside. I am convinced this is an early version of a Finsbury or similar. Does anyone have any knowledge of a similar model or anything that can help me age this. Thank you.

    1. Hello Kevin! I‘m definitely not an expert and investigating myself right now about old Winchester models (difference between 5CLF and 4CLF besides pockets…) and found an interesting website that might help answering your question: https://filowiki.robert-mayr.com/index.php?title=Finsbury_(1st_gen)_Personal So perhaps yours is an 1st generation Finsbury from around 2003/2004.

    2. Hello, fellow Kevin...

Pictures would help. Was it an eBay or Vinted purchase you could post a link to?

Model names are not always embossed on the binder.

Manufacturing codes ending I would be 1997, six years before the 2003 introduction of the Finsbury. So seems unlikely to be a prototype.

P would be 2004, in the 2nd year of Finsbury production, with an unconcealed popper on the clasp (concealed from 2005 on).

Mini Finsbury has full width wallet back, 3 horizontal credit card slots and full height slip pocket on L, zip pocket, pen loop & clasp on R. Pebbled leather. It didn't come in pink in 2004; did come in magenta in 2005. At least, those are the colours documented in the available catalogues; we know they aren't entirely comprehensive...

    3. Thanks for the response. The description of the mini Finsbury fits exactly with the one I have. It does have a concealed popper - so looks more 2005 than earlier.
I will try and load a few photos in a couple of hours when I am home - I purchased it in a local second hand shop so no other point of reference.

    4. Pink entered the Finsbury palette in 2007.

In case you hadn't found them, the collection of old catalogues can be found here:

      https://philofaxy.blogspot.com/p/catalogues.html?m=1

The catalogues aren't always very good at describing or depicting features, but most do feature line drawings of the models. Sometimes, they are missing 'details', such as rings...

    1. That's a local link I don't think it will work. You need to share via something like Dropbox.
