Free For All Friday No 893 by Laurie

As Anita does at this time of year, I like to look through my planning system and think about what has
worked for me over the past year, what hasn't, and what has changed.

Here are a couple of questions I ask myself that might be helpful for you as well:

How has my system changed over the course of the year to adapt to new/ different needs?

Which pages do I use the most in my Filofax? Which pages do I use the least? What can I do to make the least-used pages more useful? Should they be adapted, merged with other types of pages, or removed entirely?

What about you, do you evaluate your planning system this time of year to see what's working and what could be improved?

And as always on Fridays, feel free to ask and/or discuss anything Filofax-related!

  1. I feel like my system is in a constant state of reassessment - definitely not a good thing! But the main difference this past year has been the move back from A5 to Personal, which is now complete going into 2026. So I expect next year to be much more stable.

It was a great pleasure to meet Zsu from Costa Rica in London yesterday, and I will be making a few more tweaks as a result of our conversation. I think we may have also agreed to compare notes through the year on what's working and what isn't.

    1. I’m very interested in the switch to personal from A5 because my brain hasn’t been able to get comfortable with that format and I haven’t been able to fully understand why. Steve’s posts are great on this.
I’ve had a last minute swerve with my diary pages as I’ve wanted something very portable, my daily pages don’t leave the house so I’ve stayed in A5 for those. I’ve found switching from A5 diary inserts to pocket has worked for me and next year is now all set up. Maybe it’s the squareness of the pages, not sure.
Looking at my collection of organisers I, of course, have more personal organisers than anything else!
My main challenge for 2026 is not allowing myself to switch to something else…

    2. Hi Lucy
I jumped the starting gun on 2026 by switching to Personal size on 1st December, which was a Monday so that worked out well!
So far I’m not regretting it and it is going well. I have identified a couple of pages I need to print in personal size, but they aren’t very frequently used so not harm so far.
I have roughly the same number of Personal Size organisers as A5 ones! Quite a few of the Personal size ones I’ve never seriously used.
      Steve
