  1. Hi everyone! I recently reversed my setup. So, instead of the classic "diary-notes-projects-...", the new order is "addresses-finances-information-projects-notes-diary". This makes it easiest for me, as a right-hander, to write in the important sections at the back. Could this have been the original order? The "fILOFAX" and ref.number imprint on the upper side of some old inserts from the 80s might suggest so... Does anyone else do it this way? Or are there other tricks for right-handers to avoid having to constantly remove the pages to write?

    1. This makes perfect sense. I have previously moved my Address section to the front followed by my diary section etc. This evened out the number of pages on each side of the rings and it meant that they intruded far less when righting on either side of the rings.
There are no hard rules to what order the sections are in. I use a number of different ‘today’ markers to make it easier for me to find frequently used sections.

    2. I'm not sure I understand how the new setup is better. Maybe I'm missing something.

If you need to write on both the left and right pages of an open binder, with rings in the centre, then the rings get in the way for one side, whichever is your dominant hand; if right-handed, writing on the left page is difficult; if left-handed, writing on the right page is difficult.

Having your most commonly-written pages in the centre means a stack of paper either side of the rings, so the rings become less intrusive (as they protrude above the paper surface less). If the rings are small, they protrude even less...

    3. Hi Kevin! Maybe it's just me. Or maybe it has something to do with my hand position when writing...? If the left stack is high enough to almost make the rings disappear... I find that comfortable. The most important things are then at the very back. The method you and Steve described would also be interesting... The fact that, as Steve rightly points out, there are no hard and fast rules for setups sometimes makes it more difficult, especially for me with my Libra zodiac sign :-))

    4. Hah! No, it was me being dense... I even mentioned the paper stacks but only in the middle, and not piled on one side. So, yes, I now see your point, thanks.
