I keep wishing I could use Filofax but then fall back on Franklin. Wirecutter loves Filofax but writes off Franklin. Layout on FF doesn't lend itself to tasks/appointments as well as Franklin. Thoughts? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI think it is down to what inserts you use. A review site is going to only consider the inserts available from the suppliers. When in fact you can design your own inserts and print them fairly easily with a little bit of practice. Or alternatively look on Philofaxy at what we have to offer. Or ETSY and other similar sites for inserts that will work for you.
DeleteNot all inserts work for everyone.
We were discussing this issue at the weekend in the Skype call. I can find a personal size insert that is very close to what I want from Filofax, the problem with it is though is it is 5 languages! And all the extra languages take up valuable space on the pages!!
I recently got myself a new planner (a5 Taupe/Black Nappa) and I am thinking about which calendar to put in it. I was considering the Day on 2 pages but I am worried that it will not fit in the planner. I would like the entire year to fit in the planner. I also have the Malden in a5 - if it wouldn't fit in the Nappa, could it possibly fit in there with the non-stiff cover? I don't want to spend the money if it isn't going to fit. If anyone has any experience with this, that would be great. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIn my experience, a Day on Two Pages insert will hardly fit in any filofax, if you want to put the whole 12 months of it at once. I have an A5 Malden - recently dubbed quite lovingly an "overstuffed planner" - which has 30 mm rings. I've fit into it about 230+ pages and the inserts go over the middle of the rings about 2 mm. Meaning, it's more than what it should have. Thus, a D2P insert, with at least 365 pages will go well over the middle of the rings and you will have issues turning pages, not to mention that you won't be able to add other inserts or dividers. The weight of the paper can also end up breaking your bookmark/ruler (it has happened to me), bending pages and damaing the rings. Maybe a Day-per-Page could be a better option?
DeleteI used to love the idea of Day-per-Page inserts and the idea of a D2P was just magical, but for people like me, who like to carry about everything in their planner, and a whole year calendar insert, even with a forgiving, flexible and most amazing planner like the Malden, such an idea is just a fairy tale, and probably a horrendous backache or an anchor that will keep you chained to your desk.
the first criterion is ring size, stiffness is rather secondary
