The Filofax Holborn has been a long term favourite of mine.
Mainly because of the unique pocket design and how you can utilise the pocket layout, especially in the inside front cover.
The last 2-3 weeks I've been using my black Holborn A5 with a clasp closure.
The main differences between the clasp and the zip versions in A5 are:
- The clasp closure has 25 mm rings, the zip has 30mm rings;
- The clasp closure only has a single pen loop, where as the zip has two pen loops
- The clasp has more pocket openings than the zip, but the zip does have external pockets.
- The clasp is slightly smaller in physical size compared to the zip.
The internal layout of the clasp model. The cards show where the pocket openings are.
The smaller ring size wasn't an issue for me, I was able to get all my inserts on to the rings and they are printed on 80gsm paper.
I added a second pen loop using a Filofax Flex Pen Loop with holes punched in to it.
This works for me, in normal use the pen loop insert is close to the front of my page stack, so it doesn't get in the way and I have a pencil to hand when I need it.
Have you ever owned a Filofax Holborn?
I have a compact personal Holborn, it’s a great organiser. What I really like about it is the pocket configuration. Nice leather too.
ReplyDeleteHolborn and Lockwood are for me the best models there are in their portfolio for gentlemen's needs. Unfortunately Lockwood seems like disappearing slowly from their lineup. Pocket version is no longer in production since half 20024 and from what I am seeing on the store, also other versions might bite the dust.
ReplyDeleteMy first, new leather binder was a personal Holborn. I really liked it but went back to my secondhand A5 Finsbury since I found out it was too small for my needs and comfort when writing in it. I thought it was better designed than the then fan favourite the Malden and I was right since AIUI the leather on smaller sizes of Malden have a plastic surface to the leather that is not a good leather, or something like that.
ReplyDeleteFor me the personal, if the size had been ok, would have the right pocket arrangement for my needs. Things fitted well IMHO. It was just a shame that the smaller size meant I could not write on the wrong side with the pages in the binder like I can with the A5 binders I have since got.
I did not know there was a zipped version. Perphaps, perhaps, perhaps!! No I shall resist!! I shal keep my A5 zipped lyndhurst and live with that instead of getting the zipped holborn. I will, I will!! Hmmm! But it sounds like a really good idea.
I've owned a couple of Holborns in the past & I think that I wouldn't have sold them, if I hadn't found my Kensington. However, I recently bought a zipped one in personal size, which is wonderful! (post to come)
