  1. I was wondering about a post/page/article about binder longevity, and how they age. I think I have in mind the cheaper models, such as the Metropol and Domino, because those are the shabbiest I've seen. But there is also the regular problem of the synthetic inner spine material used in the 'Deluxe Leather' models (e.g. Guildford), or the cracking shiny finish of the Cross. Or the painted leathers that crack, revealing the grey leather (such as old Windsors).

This might lead us to a list of 'honest leather' binders...

    2. I love this idea purely because I love seeing old well used binders!

    3. Nice idea, although formulating all of the details might take some time. One of the issues I think will be where quality has changed over time or the design has changed over time.
The Heritage for instance the first ones seem to have better quality leather on the inside than the current ones. At what point did it change? How do you know which 'batch'/'phase' you own or are thinking of buying?

    4. Yes, there are lots of difficulties if you wanted to do it formally; beyond the design and materials, the biggest variable is how hard a life a binder has had...

But it might be worth starting somewhere...

The thought arose from my ebay trawling, and seeing items that are (claimed to be...) NOS, and seeing the flaws. Or the used items that are falling apart (like the Metropol strap delaminating). Flatability Neil's favourite Guildford has the horrible synthetic lining problem, as does a near-new Belgravia I bought, where the spine inner is the same crumbling stuff.

You'd like to think that Filofax would address these issues, but I'm not sure. Though the Belgravia was a one-year wonder, even though introduced in all sizes (M2 to A5); maybe they discovered the problem, but you'd think they'd continue the design, only replace the faulty material with something more suitable.

    5. May be create a Google Doc/Sheet to make it accessible without it being on Facebook?

Happy to publish a post here to publicise it. I strongly recommend that you make sure that you have to approve edits/access otherwise you will get a lot of spam.
