Are you a strictly Filofax-in-a-Filofax believer, or do have a favorite alternative diary? In Personal size, I've been loving this one-page-per-day from At-A-Glance!
Fun fact: This design dates back to the 80s, when it was developed by DayRunner. At-A-Glance later acquired that company and kept this basic design.
As always on Friday, feel free to discuss anything related to ring-bound organizers!
OK you have got me with that photograph. Is it at-a-glance or filofax brand? They are different brands with the former a US company with imperial sizes and 7 holes but this is typical filofax looking. I cannot see it on the UK website like this, unless I have missed it.
ReplyDeleteI think this might be a good option for me in a compact personal binder, if I can find a good one. A rolling 3 month with loose pages at the back. Thin and simple setup for work on site use.
Nan says that it's At-A-Glance 🙂

D'oh! just realised the FF copyright was on the ruler not the infill. i thought it was on thee actual paper.
DeleteOf course my alternative is a FF notebook with diary section in it. Anyone use one?
ReplyDeleteYes, I use the Filofax Notebook in A5 and still have a couple of Pocket size. As I streamline my life, I keep considering switching to Notebook for compactness and being light in weight. However, I have so many A5, Personal and Pocket size organisers and literally thousands of leaves to use up, it seems silly to change format.
DeleteHi, Pamalison here. I have just bought 2 A5 FF notebooks with diary sections as I want them to cover 2 specific areas of my life for the coming year. I used the Personalisation Station on Filofax's website and got a custom title printed on each one. You also get to choose your diary type. I decided on the undated diary option for each because it's on 100gsm paper whereas the dated diaries are on 80gsm paper. I use fountain pens and prefer the thicker sheets, glad to report I'm not getting any bleed-through on the 100gsm. I've got a vertical week to view in one notebook and a horizontal week to view in the other. I like the layouts. I've left 4 months of pages in the notebook and stored the other 8 months - this is my habit with all my looseleaf planners. The rest of the book I've filled with lined pages. Verdict? A good, lightweight option with full A5 paper, versatile and portable. The covers (at least the options in the Personalisation Station) have a strong plastic smell - potentially due to the printing of the custom words on the front. I hope that will wear off after a few days on my desk.
DeleteYou know when you have become a ring binder nerd when you check in to a hotel, and a find an information ring binder in the room. And take out the inserts to read the name of the mechanism manufacturer...
ReplyDeleteIt was a Krause-Handler, so some time between the merger of Krause and Koloman-Handler and the Ring Alliance...

The owners manual for my 2004 VW Touran was a ring binder, but instead of the rings pulling open, one half of the ring mech turned through 90 degrees.
DeleteI’ve been using my own inserts printed at home since about 2011/12. I did try a variety of other inserts in the early years but I couldn’t find anything that met my needs.
ReplyDeleteBut I realise that not everyone can print their own inserts, hence developing the list of printed inserts suppliers besides Filofax with their QR codes taking up space on the page!!
I have some more suppliers to add to the list, a job for this weekend.
