Free For All Friday - No. 855

This weekend is one of the two weekends in the year that I look forward to.... the clocks changing here in Europe. North America changed over about 3 weeks ago.

How exciting!! Whilst a lot of devices in our house change over automatically, there are still quite a few that need to be changed manually. I have actually created an insert with the full list, with some blank spaces, because you always discover one that you missed off the list!

As in recent years I will cheat slightly and do lot of them on Saturday, leaving only visible clocks to be changed on Sunday morning.

As always on a Friday you are free to discuss anything organiser related.

Happy clock changing where ever you are....

  1. Trawling old posts, I came across this:

There's a picture of a pigskin binder, which is marked quite clearly 'Travelfax'. But the Travelfax 14CLFZ7/8 available in 1988 was a much more complicated, zip-closure binder. The one illustrated looks to be a hybrid between a 3PL Slimline and a CHxx 'change holder' insert, though it's clearly not an insert, and also seems to be in pigskin (whereas the CHxx was calf leather).

Anyone know anything about this binder; maybe it was a US-only model?

I know Paige. I will ask her if she still has it and ask for more photos of it to try and answer your questions.

    2. Thanks Steve. It's a bit OCD, but I find the 'lost binders' fascinating...

    3. Here's another one in calf leather: https://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2010/06/vintage-travelfax-real-or-fake.html

    4. Thanks. I note the 'British Filofax System', which I think was used for the US market, though someone else in the thread says they bought one in London.

It did get me trawling the old catalogues again, where we have gaps from 1981-1983, but found nothing. I went back to 1937 (where up to 1979, things seemed quite, shall we say, 'stable'...), that I have looked at before, and now my more experienced eye was struck by another mystery: three distinct binder sizes; what we now call 'personal', to support Lefax inserts, and then Filofax 'Senior' and 'Junior' Pocket Book ring binders, each with six equi-spaced rings, and their own, smaller, set of inserts. Sizes 6" x 3 1/2" and 4 1/2" x 2 3/4" respectively, though whether that is the binder or paper size is unclear. Neither of those tallies with the Pocket size introduced in 1989, though, and was another diversion from this TravelFax...
