Anita originally wrote this post back in January 2014, it deserved repeating because I still hear some of these comments over 10 years later!
- Why would you use one of them, don't you have a smartphone?
- Haha, isn't that what Yuppies used in the 80s?
- Oh, you're like Del Boy from Only Fools And Horses!
- You went up to London for the day to meet other Filofax owners? (they found that one very amusing)
- You saddo (my response was that I preferred 'quirky', thank you very much)
- Are you a technophobe?
- I think my Dad used to have one of those
- Hang on a sec, I think I've got my old one in the cupboard (only happened the once unfortunately)
- Wow, that's beautiful, please can I open it?
- The diary is so much easier to read than on my iPhone
- I prefer a paper diary really and all those pockets look really useful
- That's very cool in a retro sort of way
- What a beautiful clutch bag (when I've been using it as my wallet)
- Would you buy me one as I'm not sure where to start?
What have you heard said when someone sees you with a Filofax?
It may be that (in the UK at least) that people are generally too polite to mention it!
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the last time my Filofax was remarked on, and I see more ring binders at meetings than I did a few years back (mostly in use as notebooks I suspect). Having now largely migrated back to Personal size, mine does stand out a bit. I agree, people are generally very polite about it here in the UK!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reposting this, Steve.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since anyone commented on mine, but the most recent one was unsurprisingly about not needing a Filofax now that I finally got around to buying a smartphone...
Oh the irony !!
Delete"Oh my god you're so organized!" (The other night when I whipped out my Filfofax and wrote someone's contact info on a tiny, attached rectangle ...)
ReplyDeleteI get this quite often as well. I suspect a lot of smartphone users struggle with the fact that they're not actually much good for personal organisation. Infinite scrolling, yes, organisation not really.
DeleteOne of my coworkers says that when she grows up, she wants to be as organized as I am. I use an A5 Malden, and she calls it my "little planner." :)
