Filofax A5 Belmont - Review/Revisited.

Continuing the revisiting of the A5 organisers in my 'collection' and putting them to use for 2-4 weeks at a time, at the start of this month (January 2025) I moved in to my A5 Belmont.

When it came to writing this post I realised that I hadn't featured this particular organiser in any posts. I have done a couple of posts about the Personal Size Belmont and you will find those here

There isn't a massive difference in the design between the two sizes.  The two sizes look very similar in the details.

The clasp features a double row of stitching.

This continues around to the back of the organiser with a ornate pattern.

The spine also has the same double row of stitches as the Personal Size.

A close up of the rear of the clasp attachment.

The front interior features a pen loop and several card slots. The front pen loop is larger than the rear pen loop which isn't uncommon with a few Filofax A5 organisers. Hence why my chunky pen is on the front loop.

The A5 Belmont comes with 30mm rings of a standard Krause design, i.e. not riveted. The inside back cover has a notepad slot and just a smaller pen loop.

The front cover features a double press stud design to give you a bit of extra capacity if you require it.

The Belmont range were sold around about 2004-2006 in tan as shown here and in black, both with contrasting stitching.

I've enjoyed using the Belmont these last few weeks, but it is time to move on to another A5 in the collection, I've not decided which one yet.

  1. Are there many Filofaxes that use Krause rings? I thought that Filofax did not use them and that was a negative for the brand with some people.

If there are more models with Krause rings, is there a list of them somewhere?

To understand the differences between the different types of rings used in Filofax organisers and any other brand for that matter you need to study the Ring Alliance catalogue.
The basic design of these things hasn't really changed in over 100 years.
      Their catalogue is here:
      https://www.ring-alliance.com
Krause will make rings for any one and customise them (engrave) with a company logo.
Filofax I'm certain are using this company to make their rings. But they use a variety of types in the organisers.
Some that are riveted (Malden) and some that are the PUR fitting (Heritage, Chester) these can be changed, but not easily and finding a supplier is also difficult
The regular ones that can be changed used by Gillio, Van der Spek and others are the PER type and are available in low units of supply. Filofax have also in the past used the PER type, but swapped to the PUR type because they are more secure.
