Choosing a colour?

How do you decide which colour to buy when you are picking a new organiser? There are so many colours I like these days, making that crucial decision is not easy?

Do you have any favourite colours?

  1. Crimson Malden - done! And it's only looking better and better after years of wear.

Though if the Malden ever were to fall apart, I think I'd be on the hunt for something in racing green - I've always loved the color!

    1. Can I fully agree with you, J? Crimson Matt Malden is my favourite. And I think green isn't as available as I'd like! Although I'm currently looking longingly at aqua....

    2. Another fan of the Crimson Malden. It's my first real leather filofax and I love it! I have a few more binders, but keep going back to it. I love red, and this was a no-brainer for me.

    3. And other fan of the crimson Malden here too. Really great shade of red too, not too bright or dark.

  2. It's not that difficult for me.
I mostly only like black and grey.
The only colour that were available and I liked for my Metropol was black
    - so I got black.
My Finsbury was on sale for 30Euros in grey - so I got grey.
And because I didn't liked the colour black for my Maldens I got them in grey.
But meanwhile I also love them in chrimson and vintage pink.. thats the hard part starting for me.. but I think I'm goint to hunt for both.
And the black Original and maybe the nude one are on my list..
You are making me poor, Filofax!

  3. My favourite colour is turquoise but at the time, the only colours available for the Cuban zip was black brown or red. So i went for the chilli a nice bright red in not going to forget where i put this, i have had black ff before now i think they're boring unless they has some embossing on them, and i didn't fancy the brown it looked old

  4. I would love the Original in Standard green, but I am very tempted by the Classic Botanic sage...Usually my colour is purple, and I have a purple Saffiano Personal that I love, but no other model has a hue of purple that I really like.

  5. I prefer solid, masculine, colours: black, brown, grey, dark blue, and so on. I absolutely LOVE the grey of my Malden.

    2. I'm with you Cruz! Maybe not black, but certainly all the others! I think male organiser users are becoming a tiny minority though, so softer, more colourful shades, floral patterns and patent colours are now dominating. Filofax use, and indeed Philofaxy membership, has become overwhelmingly female over the past couple of years whereas digital sites such as Time Management Ninja are read by an overwhelmingly male audience. Of course, there are men who like floral patterns and women who prefer browns and greys, so there's a market for everyone!

    3. Second that Tim. Incoming black VDS with fuscia interior will stir things up slightly though.

  6. Here is another vote for the Malden color, Crimson. I'm an artist and floral designer, so color is important to me, my work and my well-being. Crimson is so rich looking and appealing. I am instantly drawn to it, despite the other Malden colors I have. I think the Crimson is classic, has an Old World feel and is neither masculine or feminine. I've pulled it out in public settings and people always notice the color.

  7. Red is my favorite color, but I am drawn to turquoise and royal blue of which there aren't enough in the Filofax range. I like neutral colors like black, brown, and tan in textured finishes like ostrich and croco, again of which there aren't enough.

  8. I'm naturally drawn to purple, but it can be too dark sometimes. Lately I've been drawn to turquoise, green and even red. Last year I had a red planner that I liked so much I bought a Cuban in Chili and really like the bright color, especially during dark and grey winter months. I like the classic look of black, but I find it depressing to look at all the time.

  9. I would have said that I prefer the brown shades, but having had a quick look through my planners, while I do have a couple in brown hues, I also have a couple in black one in violet and one in pink! I guess I'm not as tied to a particular colour choice as I imagined! I think for me, the planner comes first and the colour second, although I wouldn't go for the fluorescent Originals, I think they're a bit too 'young' for me!

  10. Green and blue are my favourite colours but weirdly I am not attracted to planners in those colours. I have two Maldens an A5 in grey and a personal in ochre. The ochre reminds me very much of the colour of leather used for gentleman's accessories in the 1920s and 30s and I think it is this antique look that has attracted me as I am a sucker for old stuff. I do think black is too boring though. I have a personal Guildford zip in black but it wouldn't have been my first choice - just all that was available. I have a personal Paperchase planner which is called secret garden and has a bright floral design over it which I think is beautiful - just not really appropriate for my work role.

    1. Would like to add that, whilst I would not normally choose anything in red, the red Malden is a beautiful colour and I would love one!

    2. I agree with you about having an appropriate planner for work. My impulse pink purchase, while lovely and absolutely fine for how I want to use it, would not look professional at work.

  11. Definitely the green/ecru one! Green is my favorite color for ages.....and this is beautiful!!
However I just got the Malden, and it’s also really great. But when ever I need a replacement I want the green one for sure!

  12. I'm going to break away from my beloved Holborns just one time and get a fuschia Original.

  13. Definitely something classic, I went with ochre and grey maldens and navy compact zip malden...until I went and fell in love with the aqua that is!!

That said I do like the new dark teal original, I'm thinking finances as its close to green which is the colour of money right?

  14. I always go for black. You know it's going to go with everything and always look smart. I liven up the inside with customized dividers and whatnot but outside is always black :)

  15. Bright, saturated colours! Pinks, purples, yellows. I don't think I would consider black, brown, grey or a dark red. I might consider navy though....

  16. I have pink DayTimers (Compact and Desk), Denim pocket filofax, burgundy vintage DayRunner because it has floral embossing and pretty inserts), a black A5 size that's fantastically decorated with a dragon and lots of gems which I must photograph and post) and although I'm not a yellow person, I just spotted a fantastic bargain on Ebay for £3.99 so had to have one :) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STANDARD-SIZE-REAL-YELLOW-SUEDE-LEATHER-PERSONAL-ORGANISER-FILOFAX-PACK-DIARY-/301133618919?ssPageName=ADME:L:OC:GB:3160

    1. I completely forgot to mention the one that started it all for me around 20 years ago - a pocket "agenda" that I had as a free gift with a purchase of some cosmetics from Yves Rocher. It's pocket size but more slimline than a Filofax and the outer cover is a floral fabric. The original inserts were all in French

  17. Well being a FC user for so many years I always picked the burgandy. That's a color I seem to choose a lot in all areas of my life. I have a brown holborn, an ochre malden, and a black GTD 3 ring binder and use them on a daily basis. My gray Malden I have on a shelf, I never cared for it. I have a red daytimer malibu which I seem to pull out more and more often, but I did not like the color when it showed up. Guess it is growing on me. I stick more to basic neutral colors it seems, but the other side of me wants an orange, green, sunny yellow, crimson malden, kingfisher blue metropol, red chameleon--I'm just afraid to buy one and then find out its just too much for me. Like the gray malden, I bought it and wanted to get a gray holborn, but why ship one all the way from France when I'm not so sure. Maybe it is the feel of the gray Malden or maybe its the color. It just reminds me of an elephant all gray and wrinkly. :)

    1. I had to laugh at this. My A5 grey Malden is just like you describe. His nickname is "Rhino" because of the similarity. I do like the colour and texture though as I am a big fan of rhinos!

    2. There must be different leather qualities on the Maldens as I have a grey mini Malden where the leather is fine greany but without any wrinkle at all while my vintage pink has a much more rough greany texture but again no wrinkles..

  18. I've always been a fan of blue, turquoise and teal, but lately purple has been the color I've been craving. My first filofax was a black one as I wanted it to go to everything, but now that there is a world of color out there I'm avoiding black planners like the plague. My next splurge will probably be the purple patent original...

  19. I just pick my favorite colors and/or patterns. I stay away from black because you don't see it well in my purse. I love color, so if a Filo color catches my eye, that is what I get.

  20. I am using a dark purple notebook that is somewhat similar to the Midori Traveler's notebook (passport size). My notebook has four fabric strings on the inside under which I can place up to four notebooks. It also has a built in pocket and elastic pen loop. It is a small convenient notebook that I can use separately or in addition to my brown compact Luxe. I like the combination of my rich brown planner and the dark purple notebook. For this summer I would choose a lighter color planner if I were buying one.

  21. Purplevery time and at the moment it is a Purple Malden A5 which is used everyday at work.

  22. It's always a very easy decision for me - if it's not black I'm not interested!

  23. I am basic black all the way. I have an A5 Finsbury, A5 Bond, Pocket Piazza, Personal Fusion, and a Personal Malden - all in basic black. I dress up my pages and dividers with color pens, stickers and washi tape. I do find myself drooling every time I see ANY red Filofax, so I may buy a Crimson Malden or Red Chameleon or Cherry Red Filofax one day.
