Free for All Friday No. 469 by Nan

If you're reading this, you're probably the kind of person who likes receiving a new organizer as a gift. Maybe a fancy leather one that you wouldn't buy for yourself.

But have you ever given one as a gift, perhaps in the hopes that the recipient would enjoy it, maybe become a bit more organized as a result?

How did that work out? I've noticed that there are some people who use organizers and those who don't. I've never been able to convert one of the latter type by giving them a Filofax, no matter how beautiful.

Of course, since it's Friday, feel free to share any other ring-bound organizer experiences!

  1. I think the saying you can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink applies quite well here Nan. On the plus side, it probably helps to account for many, wonderful, unused examples of older model Filofaxes that appear on the market!

  2. I agree with gmax! I would happily give Filofaxes to everyone I know (especially the less organised ones), but don't as they would just be unused.

Over the years, I have given four Filofaxes as a gift:
    - One to my Dad

I wasn't sure if he'd like it, but he loves stationery so I hoped he would (and he did)
    - One as payment for some training I received from a friend, but I checked with her first & she'd already expressed interest in a Filofax
    - One to that friend's husband, but again he'd already expressed interest
    - An A5 Flex to my sister, but she also loves stationery & she also loved it.

  3. I've given a few to immediate family who I know are in to stationery. A Saffiano Compact to a niece for a graduation present, a Pocket Domino to my sister who already had an A5 but wanted something less bulky and durable for the diaper bag, and I found a ridiculously cheap Finsbury Pocket, replaced the rusty rings and gave it to the same niece for when she uses smaller bags.

I've tried to convince two other siblings but they prefer spirals or digital, so I won't waste a binder on them :)
