  1. Some times ago I grabbed cheaply a black Winchester in good condition and I would be very happy if I could learn a little more about him with your help.
It has amazingly gusseted pockets on both sides - I've checked the catalogs here and also the Filo-Wiki page but haven't found a Winchester with two gusseted pockets (but I did find a red one in a YouTube video from the user „minimini diarist“ - am I actually allowed to link directly?).
Like the red one in the video, my Winchester has the following features:
The golden imprint shows in three lines "filoFAX, Made in England, Real Calf" (not: 4 CLF 7/8"), the spine and the ring mechanism are embossed with the „f“, the area under the ring mechanism is made entirely of real leather and the backs of the ring protectors appear to be made of solid faux leather.
Mine also has the code CLD under the clasp.
Based on the code: could my Winchester be from 1993 (if A=1991, B=1992, C=1993)?
And was it perhaps a special model with the two gusseted pockets?
The catalogs state that the Winchester is made of "Montana calfskin" - does anyone know what "Montana" means exactly?

    1. Google says: MONTANA is a full grain leather with a sturdy structure.

    2. It sounds like one from near the end of production - 1993 could be possible. The gusset front pocket is a surprise and a good observation. Maybe there was a design change in the early 90s that we’ve just not noticed before?

    3. Also I just found two with two gusseted pockets on ebay (in black from seller "secondhandandbranded" for 53,59£ and in Hide-leather in cognac from seller "filofax_organiser_seller" for 249,95£).
But these two are stamped 4CLF 7/8" - the black one in the last line, the cognac one directly under "filoFAX".
These two are also embossed with the "f" on the spine and ring mechanism, so they might appear to be from the early 90's.

    4. I think the hide leather HLF models may all have used a double gusseted construction. The examples on Filowiki seem to support this.

  2. I’ve set up my personal Malden for 2023, but I was gifted an A5 for Christmas and I do like the bigger space for the diary layout but then an A5 isn’t very portable. Should I:
    • use the A5 for memory keeping?
    • transfer all my contents from personal to A5?
    Or other?

  3. Probably use it for memory keeping. Make it a special journal or gratitude book. If you don’t actually need an A5 you’ll probably struggle to keep carrying it!
