Desert Island Filofax

You are ship wrecked on a desert island, but you rescued your bag before it went in to the water....

You can only keep one Filofax and one pen, which Filofax will it be and which pen?

Tell us in the comments which size and model of Filofax you would keep and which pen and what type would it be you would use?

  1. Hard choice! I think my Desert Island FF would be personal sized (easy to cart around as I hunt of shelter and food), the Malden (as it has a zip pocket, card slots, lies flat and has smooth leather), I would take one of those everlasting pencils with the graphite tip as opposed to a pen (as the ink would run out of a pen)

    1. Good call. My 'old' ochre Malden or Cuban (I can't see me needing the 30mm rings of the Cavendish).

But what about refills? Pencil is certainly a good idea so the they can be reused, but possibly an eraser tipped pencil such as I generally use now.

  2. Tough one. I'm not sure o could pick just one, or even a size. I'd probably go down with the ship hugging suitcase full of planners. Pens, I don't worry about.

  3. A Malden in antiqued leather and a military fisher space pen, the Malden in deskfax size obviously, I’d carry spare coloured refills obviously, but a space pen works all the time

  4. I'd take an A4 with the biggest rings, loaded with blank 60g pages, and zipped. What would that be in the filofax range ?
Rationale is, I don't know how long I'll be there, I want as much space to jot down stuff as possible, even if it makes it a pain to haul around. Zipper is for as much protection as possible...
Pencil is a good choice, but I'd go for a 4 colour bic...

    1. My thoughts exactly haha. Plus the big zip filo would be useful for protection against anything with teeth. I tried carrying a zipped a4 and that is one brick to recon with...

  5. Would definitely be personal size - I think a brown calf leather 6CL (Gloucester) with 1/2” rings with a Plotter pen holder to hold a Caran d’Ache Ecridor Retro ball pen with long-lasting ink cartridge. In fact I think I’ve just described my perfect travel Filofax! Will need to give it a try now (no shipwrecks though).

  6. Hard choice, but I think it would have to be my Franklin Covey Classic full grain leather. I think it was called "Victoria". The rings are absolutely huge (weighs a ton when it's full). The tan coloured leather is so soft and supple, and the paisley fabric interior matches it perfectly. The pen. Well, that would have to be a pretty floral one that I bought from The Works many years ago, on sale £1.99 for the set. Very pretty, floral and came with a matching notepad that still has a few pages left. It took me ages to find the correct size refill for it, and when I did, I bought about 20.

I can't find any images on the internet so I'll have to take a photo some day......

  7. May I ask what FF is on that picture? That color of the leather is fantastic.

  9. Whichever pen has the most ink. For the FF, whichever has the biggest rings so I can put all the paper in it from the other Filofaxes.

  10. Probably a Holborn personal and a Parker or Lamy ballpoint pen. Ballpoints last forever ;-)

  11. I'd choose my faithful personal Kensington and a pencil.

  12. My personal red Kensington and Parker Jotter ballpoint (black ink).

  13. Classic black personal Winchester 4CLF7/8 and a fine nibbed Lamy 2000 fountain pen in black makrolon. The first, last, and only filofax/pen combo I need.
