Free For All Friday No. 319 by Anita

I hope that you had a lovely day yesterday and I'd like to wish you all a happy New Year.
We've had some Terry Pratchett Christmas cards for ages, so I couldn't resist having a festive picture to look at when I open up my Kensington.

Did you get a binder for Christmas, or anything for your Filofax?
I didn't as I'm in the process of selling binders that I'm not using and feel pretty content with my current set up.

But since it's Friday, all topics are welcome!

  1. Terry Pratchett Christmas cards??? OMG, I feel a google search coming on!!! No new binders for me this year as I didn't want any, but I got my Plannerisms planner, and my Moleskine Peanuts weekly planner. Now I just need to find my spare 2014 inserts so I can change all the dates, and I'm ready to start planning 2015 - yay!!!

  2. No organisers for me.... got too many already!! But I will be swapping my set up over to 2015 in my two main organisers this weekend, archiving and extracting info from this year to go forward in to next year.

I did get some sticky tabs and other stationery stuff.

But looking forward (why I don't know) to getting in to 2015 and settling in to my set up for the year.

I'm determined to write more in my journal next year as it will be a year of 'life events' and things so I want to record them in detail. I will be re-reading Ray's Kindle book on Journalling shortly.

    1. I tried to get Ray's book on journaling and Amazon said it was not available to U S customers, which I find odd. It would seem to me as long as it is a sale, why would anybody care which side of the pond the reader is located!

    2. It's available to anyone. Follow the links on this page to see it and my other Kindle books in your local Amazon store: Your local Amazon.

  3. Great picture, Anita!

Good luck with your journal, Steve!

I too will be spending my Christmas break setting up my 2015 organizers, including punching holes in my 2015 2DpP that I had printed at Staples from Ray's files. I had a dream last night that I found my ideal hole punch, and I raised my arms in the air and made an angel noise. Maybe I ate too much on Christmas...

  4. No Filofax-related Christmas gifts here, but lots of activity. The main 'gift' to me is that unusually I have lots of time to sit and think about what I want from my system, and how best to achieve it, so there may be changes ahead.

No work for me for another ten days yet, so I have time to 'try out' different aspects to my set-up before the utter madness of Tax Return January descends. After that, I'll see y'all on 1st February!

  6. No Filofax gifts, but I did get some great bag gifts -- a Cambridge satchel and a Ralph Lauren handbag.

  7. No Filofax gifts for me either (though did get some fabulous stationery!!), but like others, I will be enjoying spending the next few days finalising my set-up for 2015. It's pretty much the same set-up as 2014 but I need to transfer birthdays etc into the new diary.

  8. For me arrived a great Winchester Filofax on 24th December much to my delight. Very happy I've got my hands on the rare traesures that Filofax does not produce any more these days.

    1. And I need to add that this lovely vintage Winchester (that I found on Ebay) came with inserts dated from 1985 to 1988: note pages, graph paper, simplistic line & grid paper, undated day record pages.. that I love for their simlistic and not intrusive functionality. I wish there was an option to go back in time where the product and its functionality was key and no turning into a loud screeming fasionista item covered and accompanied with lots of advertisement that even within the newer inserts takes up valuable writing space.

  9. No planner gifts for me, unless you count the pretty Coral Parker Jotter I bought myself as a stocking stuffer.

I did gift a Filofaxe Compact Saffiano. And I'm looking for one for someone's February birthday gift. So I get the fun of the hunt without having to add to my collection.

I'm spending my holidays doing some big projects that I have been saving for when I had larger blocks of time (upgrading OS and software on my desktop, re-arranging my office. selling some collectibles). I had a list waiting for me in my Filo.

For my 2015 setup, I'm back in limbo. I was very happy with the printables that I trailed for December - but the etsy designer has put her shop on an prolonged hiatus so I can't get the 2015s.

So I ordered inserts from Collins Debden in Austrailia, but they never shipped, and part of my order is now listed as backordered.

So I'm not sure what to do. I've decided not to worry about it until next week.

    1. I suggest Steve and Ray's free diary printables here on Philofaxy, you could just print out a few weeks' worth, and you can customise them if you are a bit computer savvy!!

  10. I use an A5 for my planner. I just received a Hobonichi Techo(pocket sized) It is very impressive but I am not sure what to do with it. Any suggestions?

  11. I decided to trim and punch my week pages that I designed instead of stapling a card stock cover on them to use as a separate notebook insert. I will place the pages in my pocket binder along with the insert I bought. Designing inserts requires patience and trial and error but for me it is worth the effort. I have an almost finished product and I did not think that I would be using my insert. It is so different than buying pages year after year from the same companies or saying that I would do this. My pages and dividers are not the same size but I can easily find them in my binder. I like my plain pages and dividers and I am glad that I have come up with ways to add tabs and customize.

  12. I really love the quality of binders in Filofax selection, they are soft, and flexible, but I love the pocket size in Franklin covey, it is just prtfect size for me, i have three binders for FC pocket binders, but they are too stiff. Leather itself is soft, but they put hard board inside in front and back cover which made it stiff itself. And it made it doesnt have enough flexible like filofax binders when I made pretty stuffy. So, I was thinking using Original binders with FC pocket inserts, but there is too much height left, and it made look waste the room and ugly. I am still looking for the answer how I could use FC pocket size insert with my favorite binder.
