News from Filofax has been very scarce and hard to come by in this last year, your readers want to know what to expect this year.
Your mission Steve, should you decide to accept it is to find out what you can about the new additions to the range this year.
As always, should you or any of your I.M. Force be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions.
This tape will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck, Steve."
So I had my instructions... I was on a mission to discover what I could about the new 2016 Filofax range, and what would be left of the previous models as well... would the Malden survive another year or not.....? These would be the questions I would be seeking to answer.
So what did we find out....
We found that there would be some new 'Pocket Slim' models in the Lockwood and Nappa models, by Slim I'm guessing 15mm ring size, or may be 13mm.
In the Pocket size there are some new lower price models that we already know about and have seen, but coming out later in the year a 'Classic Croc' range in three colours.
In the Compact size the 'Classic Croc' model again and a new one called 'Heritage' it will be curious to see what that one looks like.
Another surprise return in a way... 'Personal Slim' for the Lockwood and Nappa ranges, again I'm guessing 11 or 13 mm ring sizes
The Personal size has the most changes to it. New colours for the Original, Lockwood models, as well as the Malden in Fuchsia and Kingfisher Blue. The Holborn gains a Nubuck Brown finish at a slightly higher price than the existing ones.
New models in this size include the Heritage and the Classic Croc
In the A5 size we will see new colours for the Original, Lockwood, Malden, Holborn. And once again the Classic Croc and Heritage get mentioned.
The Classic Croc is quite an expensive model, priced at a level that had been left vacant this last year.
Nothing new in the A4 size, with just the Metropol and Finsbury mentioned and no Mini organisers listed at all now.
The Clipbook A5 will be out in three new colours Navy, Orange and White.
No pictures as yet... dangling from a zip wire through a sky light is difficult at my age, with a torch between my teeth and an organiser and a pen.. I'm sure you will understand!!!
We will share pictures of these as soon as we know when the guard dog is asleep and he's been fed...
Mission accomplished.... roll titles and theme music...
A personal Malden in fuchsia! OMG! I have to get one. Do we know when?
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what the new colors will be for the A5 binders! Thank you for this report Steve!
ReplyDeleteWell done, mission completed in optimum manner!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell done, mission completed in optimum manner!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAs ever your service to Philofaxy even in times of great danger is much appreciated Sir!
ReplyDeleteAlthough paper devotees still often demand ever larger rings, most people these days carry minimal paper, as data is keot on smartphones and tablets, Filofax (as usual, very late in the day) is recognising the market for much slimmer ringed models. "Personal Slim" sounds the same as "Slimline" that has just been phased out! The standard Slimline ring was always 11mm. A few models - such as the Holborn I use daily - had oval rings. These were still 11mm but pushed out to 13mm on the longer side. As for Pocket, the standard ring mech has always been 15mm although a Slim Pocket 11mm was manufactured for a while (and yes there is a 19mm too!). It would be sensible if they have gone for 11mm in both Pocket Slim and Personal Slim.
ReplyDeleteBy the way - White isn't new to Clipbook. It was one of the original colours in the first edition "smelly glue" batch.
Tim,
DeleteWarmly agreed as I'm exactly that kind of user - no longer keep a paper calendar, never kept paper contacts. I use FF as a wallet and notebook, both creative and work. Increasingly I've refused to carry a 23mm Personal. Just had a Slimline Holborn fall apart on me (ring mech detached from the leather) and I already miss it for the wallet functions.
Very curious to see the Nappa and Lockwood Slim versions. I liked the slight thickness of the "13mm" Holborn, but can definitely live with 11mm - have a Classic Slimline that works nicely.

The ring mech on the Holborn (and other Slimline models) is held by two tiny metal lugs. It is easy for one of these to break if you drop a loaded organiser. That's what happened to mine. However, the mech can then be fixed in place using a strong impact glue such as Evostick. (That's a strong glue - not a fast "Superglue"). My has been used daily like that for 18 months but I purchased a spare Holborn last year for when it finally wears out.
DeleteFuchsia personal Malden! Yes please! Well done on your investigation Steve.
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued by this "Classic Croc". Is that a Classic in croco print leather, or an entirely new range?
ReplyDeleteA kingfisher blue Malden? I am looking forward for it, and I am very curious about the new colours for the Originals.
ReplyDeleteSo exciting! I'm looking forward to new Original colours...
ReplyDeleteWell done, that man!
ReplyDeleteHa! Loved this Steve. And great news about some new binders. It's been slim pickins for a while.
ReplyDeleteNew colors for the Originals. These are my favorite line. Glad you took on this mission. Good show.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations on completing your mission, Steve.
ReplyDeleteMORE MALDEN COLOURS. Yay! Blue will be most welcome :)
ReplyDeleteI just saw an advance pic. It's just the aqua Malden reissued with a different name
DeleteDo we know when to expect the new Malden colours.
ReplyDeleteWas rooting for another Malden compact zip release, I am off to sulk now :(
ReplyDeleteI am interested in the pocket binders because of the portability and small ring size. Pertaining to the mode I prefer a paper insert because my format is original. There might be one that is similar online. I would not use the month calendar with boxes on a computer or on paper. Thank you for the update.
ReplyDeleteSuper excited! If you need an accomplice, you can count on me. ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, Steve, don't forget about Secret Agent Bover!
DeleteWhen fusia Malden is going to be?
ReplyDeleteNeed a job before the release. Have to buy the maldens.
ReplyDeleteChanting Chanting.
Its almost April when are the 2016 colors going to be available???
ReplyDeleteNot until June we are told
DeleteOooh any chance of a photo leak of the new malden colours now it's almost May?? :D
ReplyDeleteWhen are the new Maldens being released?
ReplyDeleteAny idea if the new Lockwod colors will be for zip and/or clasp versions?

ReplyDeleteWhen does the 2017 inventory get to Filofax USA? I would love a fuschia Malden personal but only ochre and purple are available here. Is fuschia available anywhere in the Uk? I can travel! But I also don't want to settle for a purple Malden in December 2016 if new models and 2017 colors will be released shortly after that. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you for asking this question. I'd like an answer. I called Filofax USA customer service and their answer they don't know if they'll ever get this item. Terrible customer service.
DeleteThe new malden colors have an awful smell. I have both the fuchsia and kingfisher and they smell awful- very chemical most likely from they dye. Several on IG have mentioned the same thing. Perhaps it's this first batch. I've made filofax aware and they said they'll investigate. The smell is so strong it gets on your hands after touching and even the inserts pick up the smell. Hopefully they'll fix it, but for now they cannot even offer a replacement because they're sold out and don't expect more until October as I was told.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the new colours for the A5 Originals? Not sure if they're already out, planning on buying one soon.
