  1. Hi - Is there a year planer in the vertical format available? (ie. month in columns)
    Thanks - Kerryn

    1. We don't have one, but it shouldn't be too difficult to create one.

Can you please email me philofaxy at gmail dot com I have a test file for you to try out an A5 vertical format year planner printable over two pages so they face each other, cramming all 12 months on to the page width looked a bit cramped.

    3. For the Filofax ring layout? Not that I'm aware of. Franklin Covey has a vertical WO2P layout, but you'd have to washi tape over the holes and repunch.

  2. Are there any kind, clever souls out there who have a template or tutorial to make landscape format forms for the Mini size. I have one of my own but it only prints top to top so that one needs to turn around the Filofax to write on the other side. The professional ones print top to bottom if you can understand what I mean. Thanks to all.

    1. Here's a clue.... Text Direction.
So you create your insert in exactly the same way, then highlight the cells and click on Format, then Text Direction and you can swap it around to the left or the right as you wish.

  3. Instagram, Facebook and youtube are filled with posts, pictures and videos of people with beautifully decorated filofaxes, with tons and tons of sections, drawings, washitape and inserts. It would be lovely to see a post of filofaxes used in a more minimalistic way.

    1. Mine are fairly minimal. Did you see my post about a week ago here:

    4. Mine are minimal too. I like to keep my planners free from stickers, colour and other decorations as they tend to distract me and I don't like the look of a decorated planner. My planners need to stay clear and neat in order to be functional.

  4. I am taking early retirement, and realised that I haven't given my new planner set-up much thought. At the moment, I have a single Filofax for work and personal stuff, using an A5 zipped Holborn with the 2-page per day professional inserts, along with weekly and monthly inserts and a year planner. I'm not sure I'm going to need all of that once we are retired, but I don't know which 2018 inserts to order or print.

So, my question is, did people who had life-changing events plan ahead for what they thought they would need from their filofax, or did they wait until after the change to create a new planning tool? And what did they use while the change was happening? My change is a move to Scotland with my husband and crazy cat!

The good thing about the Philofaxy inserts is that I can print some off and try them out as I go along instead of having a whole year of an insert that just doesn't work for me.

    1. Hamish congratulations on your retirement and move to Scotland (aka my favorite place on Earth!) I'm American living in Scotland, if have any questions or even just want to chat about Scotland you can email me at Laurie758 (at) Gmail (dot) com.

And to answer your question, I've done several big life-changing events (I've moved internationally several times, 6 different countries on 3 continents, as well as other big things) and it's very difficult to know what you will need from your planner until the time arrives. I try to use something that has worked well for me in similar situations in the past, such as a system for lots of scheduling when I'll be very busy, etc. But the best thing is to keep your system flexible so you can change what you need when you need it. This is something ring binders excel at!

I found it worked best for me to have all my plans on month on two pages calendars, then transfer things to weekly or daily pages as needed. That way if I needed to see my week schedule at a glance, or daily details, it was much easier than having to recopy a whole year's worth of dates every time I needed to change planner formats.

Best of luck with your move! :D

    2. Thanks Laurie, that is really helpful. As we're moving out and briefly staying in a hotel before making the journey north with the cat, I need something that is portable but flexible. I am now setting up my Filofax for the move and like your idea of using the month on two pages.
We're moving to Kinross in Fife, and while my husband is English, I am originally from Glasgow, though it is 20 years since I last lived in Scotland. So, it's all a big adventure for both of us and the cat.
