The introduction at Filofax UK of Clipbook products in personal size had completely passed me by.
ReplyDeleteIs there anything special about the inserts that are sold as specifically Clipbook ones, or are they really just the same as personal leaves?
A5 leaves fit A5 Clipbook.
DeletePersonal leaves fit Personal Clipbook.
Although I don't know for sure, I'm certain that the early Clipbooks had leaves produced by a third party (probably the same company overseas that manufactured the binders). That may still be the case or they may be printed at Letts in Scotland.
Typically Filofax get A4 and A5 inserts printed elsewhere, common size, easy to do etc. But they do Personal, Pocket, Mini, Deskfax in house.
DeleteThe Clipbook inserts in A5 were not that brilliant in quality in terms of paper quality, although they might have changed since they were introduced.
Thanks Gentlemen. I notice a couple of the inserts (folding year and month planners) are printed on 100g/m2 paper, so should be better than Filofax's average. But I also saw some reports of unpleasant smelling ink!
DeleteAlso known as a 'legal high' in some places! I had four A5's here when they first came out. It gave me a headache! I had to remove them from the office because of the fumes... Once aired though they were fine.
DeleteThe pungent aroma in the first batch of A5 Clipbooks was caused by the glue used to stick the two faces of the covers together. A lot of people thought it was the leaves!

DeleteDid anyone take notice of this eBay aucton https://www.ebay.de/itm/132309322663 ?
ReplyDeleteIt is a 3CL 2Z which has the Change Holder as the binder's back cover.
I know, 3CL stands for 'three pockets, Calf Leather'. I assume, 2Z standing for 'two zip pockets'.
As I recently read, the 'F' in the Filofax product codes as in 4CLF stands for 'fastener', so I am wondering, why this one misses that 'F' even though it has got one.
Yes it should really include the F too, so represents an exception to the convention.
ReplyDeletePerhaps they thought the model code was long enough already, although still shorter than some.
I am looking for information on this "binder" the one without rings that I saw a photograph of Janet Carr using (The Red One) recently. I am unfamiliar with this. I think it is a codex (VdS) so my questions are - how does one use it and where does one get the refills for it?
