Free For All Friday - No. 517 by Steve

Something unexpected happened to me as I was travelling home from the London Meet Up last week.

I got recognised whilst waiting for an underground train. The exchange was very short and sweet.

It's not every day people say to me 'Are you Steve from Philofaxy?' Or 'I recognise your voice from the podcast.'

I love it when people do that sort of thing. It took me by surprise.... a pleasant one though.

Have you had a similar encounter because you had your Filofax organiser on view or similar?

As it is Friday, of course you are free to discuss anything ring bound organiser related.

  1. I have a question for you. After a long time operating GTD out of a Personal sized Filofax (and occasionally A5!) I've decided to move to a Franklin Planner for 2019. I'm in the process of buying a better binder than the one I now have from a lady in Canada and have ordered a set of 2019 Do2P refills, the seven ring configuration precluding printing my own.

What I DON'T plan to do is carry this with me all the time, so I'm looking for a Personal sized super-slimline binder which will slip into my suit jacket pocket, and into which I can put maybe 30 sheets of lined paper for capture on the go.

Just to be clear, I'm not looking for a Compact.

I remember years ago having just such a binder. I don't remember the exact ring size but it was about 6mm I think. It was smooth burgundy leather, although that's not necessarily what I want this time.

Any suggestions? I'm happy with a used binder and I can look around once I have an idea.

    1. Hi David
How about a Holborn or Finsbury Slim, 11 mm rings which is about the smallest I've see recently for a personal size organiser.
Ideally you don't want a clasp, they catch when you are slipping them in and out of your pocket.
Slims are fairly thin on the ground on the FF UK site, but I'm sure if you look around the for sale groups on FB, or here on Adspot, or send me the details for a Wanted ad.

    2. Thanks Steve great suggestions. I will have a look round. Fully agree about having no clasp - it'll just watching on my pocket as you say - or, worse, pulling a pen out with it resulting in loss.

I was also wondering about a Lockwood slim but not sure of the ring size. I think 11mm would be ok, but no more than that
