When I was offered this review of one by Karen I was very keen to learn some more about this new brand.
Moterm is a leather planner-if you know what a “Filofax“ is then you know what a Moterm planner is. It’s an amazingly well made leather planner-with features usually missing from most inexpensive planners.
The rings were 25mm, firm, yet easy to open, closed tightly and can be unscrewed to replace them.
The planner was fairly floppy, and stayed fully open on my desk; it had a very minimal stiffener, which felt like a thin sheet of cushiony material.
The planner also includes a leather fly leaf, one with a series of card pockets on the back side. The Moterm planner comes with approximately 100 sheets of undated lined schedule paper. As sometimes is found on less expensive planners-there was NO chemical smell, nor any type of plastic coating.

Some of the features include a long full length pocket on the top for your full sized folded paper, or a bunch of bills, and 2 secretarial pockets, one on each side of the interior. The leather pen loop is made from a matching color leather with a back in elastic, and will easily hold a full sized pen. Even a Lamy Safari fountain pen, or a Frixion full sized ball point fits with ease.

I purchased the Personal sized Moterm, which is the same size of a medium or personal sized Filofax or other brand of leather binder. They also offer Pocket, A6 and A5 size organisers as well.
In conclusion, it’s interesting to note that considering the $56 I paid for the Moterm, it would have cost me at least $200+ for a similar sized leather planner with all these features. It’s a great planner-but at the same time it’s important to remember that ultimately it’s all about what you really want-and can afford.
I just wanted an attractive and dependable leather planner, one that would accommodate my basic needs. Spending $200+ was not something I wanted to do.
What it’s NOT: A luxury, handmade, top of the line, leather agenda. It does not show or have ANY logo, nor does it pretend to be anything other than a Moterm.
It came carefully wrapped in a nice box, and arrived in perfect condition. It smells like fine leather, and the stitching is neat and precise. I’m pleased with my purchase and would consider other colours and sizes in the future!
Thank you Karen for taking time to send us the photos and your initial impressions of this new brand of organiser.
I agree with everything you have said. I have recently bought a Moterm cover for my stalogy notebook and am very impressed with it.
ReplyDeleteI am also a fan of the Moterm. I have a small collection, covers for both my Hobonichi weeks (which functions beautifully as a wallet) and Stalogy B6, and ring binders in personal and A7/pocket size.
ReplyDeleteCustomer service through the Aliexpress shop is very helpful and quick to respond and they are VERY responsive to customer suggestions.
Looks very nice.....
ReplyDeleteShould VdS and Gillio, etc, be nervous?
No I don't think so, this market is big enough for everyone these days. Judging by the Facebook group people are buying this brand as well as VdS and Gillio so everyone is getting a share.
DeleteI wondered what the catch was for this less expensive variety. I reached out to the company on Amazon and asked about leather sourcing. They don’t use leather from the food industry, if you don’t know what that means, it’s bad.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great review. I recently bought my pocket one & am pretty impressed with it!
ReplyDeleteHi, I just got an a5 from them. Not crazy about it, it's floppy and hard to keep together. Cannot really be compared to a lockwood or malden. It gives off this odor that gives me a headache...will likely be sold.
ReplyDeleteHi. I’ve been looking at the Moterm range recently, but I’m not very impressed. I realised it’s because I’m a guy and they are seemingly all designed with women in mind. This is probably great business sense, but there wasn’t one I could pick to try out that didn’t remind me of a purse. Has anyone seen a Morern they would broadly think of as a man’s organiser? Or even one aimed at both sexes! I’ve seen the black and brown ones, but the basic models are the same, just different colours. It’s crazy they have only been around since 2016!
