  1. I have got an A6 Touch Me VDS and was wondering if anybody has yet tried the new 30mm rings in A6 size? Do your tabs/contents bump into the pen loop and so top tabs are necessary? I saw a photo of the new rings and small A-Z index tabs in situ in a photo on the VDS site, but do not know if larger standard tabs knock into the pen loop if that makes sense. Many thanks in advance for any answers here re 30mm A6 rings. xx

    1. Hold the front page!!! I've asked for the photos to be redone. The A-Z index tabs they used in the photos are Senior size ones not A6 ones ie 10mm narrower.

The bigger rings are however only adding 5 mm to the existing cover so it should work. The cover on the Touch Me are made for true A6 not Senior.

Once the photos have been updated you should be able to see if there is an issue or not.
I have in the past got away with an overlap of the tabs and the pen loop because of the height difference in the stack of pages. It can be made to work.. It's a true three dimensional puzzle!

  2. Thanks Steve for this. I cut my insert pages to true A6 ie half A5 and print my own pages, so wondered how that would work on out with the tabs I have which obviously stick out further to the side than the pages themselves. I am in a bit of a quandry really, as my 25mm rings fit my contents already, but it is a bit tight as papers tend to flop on out when I click open the rings nowadays. I have already put my planner on a diet, removing fluff and frippery I don't use, so am in two minds here about the 30mm rings possibilities. I have watched your You Tube vid on inserting new rings, and am a bit scared of damaging my precious TM noir leather if I go the 30mm route and replace rings. Decisions, decisions, eh Steve. As you say, it would be best to see a photo of 30mm rings and standardized tabs rather than weeny alphabetical dividers in action really. I could compromise I suppose and use the smaller alphabetical index, but not as colourful as the botanical dividers I have and love. Thanks again Steve.

  3. I’ve recently switched to using a Personal size Malden after using A5 for years. I’m having problems adjusting to the rings being in the way when writing on the left side. Does anyone have tips on how to resolve this?

  4. I always use the ring tabs to open the rings with and take the paper out to write on. I carry a reporters' notebook to lean on at my side and to take notes on in any meetings. It doesn't matter which size planner I seem to choose to me, as the rings will get in the way of my hand. I have tried every size going, believe me. I am loving A6 at the moment, for in lockdown I have fewer appointments to attend and it is just the right size for my needs. Planner peace as the saying goes!! xx

  5. Hi TMac. I'd go back to the A5 if I were you or switch to a bound planner. The rings are going to be in the way no matter what you do. They'll be in the way when you write on the left side if you're right handed and they'll be in the way on the right side if you're left handed. This is the price you pay for the awesome flexibility rings gives you. I don't think it's worth it to take the page out every time you want to write on it.

I don't have the foggiest why the personal size is the most popular in Filofax sizes because it's such a weird shape; thin and vertical. It maximizes ring annoyance. Larger planners like A5 make the rings less in the way.

This is my first post. Hello everyone. I've been using a Franklin in the Classic size (comparable to an A5) for decades and I love it. I'm American. If I lived in Europe, I'd be using a Filofax in A5.

    1. This is interesting. I'm in the UK and I've been experimenting with a FC classic, but this is my problem too. I'm right handed and the rings are always in the way on the Do2P pages. I have to take the page out every time I want to make a diary note

    2. My trick with large rings in an A5 is to move sections around so that the paper height is similar either side of the rings. Moving the diary section more to the middle helps with the problem. In my case I only needed move one or two sections to 'equal' the height.
With 'Today' markers it wasn't an issue to find the current week each time I open my organiser.

    3. I've done that myself for quite a while. Works great up to 30mm in an A5 Filofax and I've never been to 35mm. The FC rings are 38mm and the binder has to be really full to make it work! But definitely a good plan

    4. I've tried that too, but still found the rings in the way of writing comfortably. I have now splashed out and bought an A5 Heritage, hoping the smaller ring size will solve this.

  6. Does anyone know if any Filofax company anywhere in the world does an annual tabbed divider set in A5, with the monthly plan on it, similar to the Franklin tabbed divider sets?
