Ah, finally I see the filofax I bought decades ago and still use every day. Only "defect": the black top of the closing button is gone, otherwise in very good condition.
The plastic cap cracked on mine (not the one in the photo) but there was a smooth metal dome underneath, I cleaned that up and then used some black enamel paint to disguise it. Still looks fine several years later. If yours doesn't have the domed cap underneath Alan M came up with using a brass paper fastener to replace it.
