Charleston Pocket Review

The Charleston is one of the new models that Filofax have launched this year. I was lucky to be sent an early review sample by Ideas Network to look over and photograph.

The clasp as a decorative gold coloured metal button, this is also picked up on the fastening of the clasp to the rear cover as well.

The Charleston is in full aniline buffalo leather, but it does have some polyester on the interior. The leather is quite smooth, but with a slight natural grain pattern to it. This particular example is in a dark inky blue colour, it is also available in brown, red and purple.

The Pocket model comes with 15mm rings. There is no full width back pocket on this particular model.  The Pocket size Charleston retails at £60 it will also be available in Compact and A5 size.

The front inside cover has three card slots and two full height pockets one on the inside the other on the outside in a similar design to the Holborn.

The rear cover has a half width full height pocket in leather.  The pen loop is fully elasticated and is a stitched at the outer edge of the organiser underneath the generous sized leather clasp.

One thing I did notice that was different with this model is the rivets fixing the ring mechanism to the spine of the organiser have metal covers on them to hide the ugly rivet heads you see on other models. Let us hope this idea is carried over in to other designs.

This review sample came with a standard pocket insert fill this features a multi-language week on two page diary and the usual complement of dividers and A-Z index dividers. Retail examples might differ from this review sample, the press release mentions cotton cream stationery.

Thank you to Filofax and Ideas Network for supplying the review sample of the Charleston. Look out tomorrow for a short competition on how you could win this particular review sample.

  1. I really like the inside layout on this one!

  2. I hate to always sound critical but this model should really have gold rings or silver studs. The inner layout looks functional but that's a lot of polyester! I like how the leather looks in the photos.

  4. I love the concept... as in the functionality... I'm not sure of the aesthetics...

  5. I will have to agree with Joshua on this one. I thought the inside would be wrapped in leather like the Osterley. I was hoping this would more luxurious than the previous models release this year. Does the compact come with the gold rings only? Or will that be an option? I remember seeing gold rings stated on the press release.

  6. I bought the brown pocket Charleston, and it does not lay flat even though I've had for 2 weeks, but it is still very easy to write in. I like the polyester inside, it means my Charleston is slim, even though I also use it as a wallet. More important: my 4 barrel Coleto fits the elastic pen loop, although it is quite a tight fit. With the Coleto you need to use top dividers, side dividers will be using too much space. My Charleston pocket does not have gold rings, but I like the silver rings more. My Charleston is very soft, it smells good and it is perfect for a minimalist like me, love it :)
