  1. I often see references to "ring protectors". (But) When looking at old Filofax catalogues they seem to be named "central flaps to retain items securely in the pockets" and in a later catalouge "with two flap covered pockets". Is there a widespread missunderstandning about these being ring protectors? Or has their purpose changed thru time?
    With kindest regards

  2. Great point as I've always seen them as pocket flaps too

  3. “Ring protector” is probably a misnomer, as I think the idea is to help protect the leather binder from indentations caused by the rings, rather than protecting the rings themselves.
The Plotter brand sells “Ring Supporters” explicitly for this purpose.
You are right that the flaps on the Winchester and other old Filofax models are pitched at making the pockets more secure. I guess they may also help to avoid the ring outlines being so visible on the outside of the binder. But they themselves probably also incur more indentation by the rings than would otherwise happen if they were omitted.
So, for me, yes it’s a misunderstanding. Only if you make them into a replaceable part (like Plotter have) is the term is really valid.

  4. Is Adspot not used on here? I can’t see any for sales. Anybody know where I can find a FILOFAX - GUILDFORD EXTRA SLIM? Mine was stolen last week :(
