Free For All Friday No. 466

The 31st of October 2005 was the start of something that has had a very significant impact on my life in recent times. I didn't know about it then, in fact not for a couple of years after Philofaxy started with the post 'In the beginning'

Back then I had only just started a new job after nearly a year off. I was using a Filofax again for the first time in many years.

It wasn't until I bought an A5 Filofax I started to look around for other websites and came across Philofaxy almost by accident and started to read through the posts with interest.

Even today I know there are people finding us for the 'first time' How did you discover Philofaxy?

Of course it is Friday so please feel free to discuss anything Filofax or ring bound planner related. Have a great weekend.

  2. I came across Philofaxy quite by accident whilst browsing the internet to see if free printables were available, initially to save money really and to have something I would use, and what a wonderful find it has been. I've been to a meet up, made wonderful friends through this very site, who will be lifelong friends, who have brought me such joy, support, laughter and all the best things of being true friends. Sometimes I have to pinch myself to realize what blessings I have found here you know.I have also been wowed and bowled over by Steve's in depth knowledge of a myriad of planners and assorted accessories and Ray's in depth knowledge of computer aided design. It has helped me to organize my life, find wonderful friends on the way and to enjoy something creative again, even through doing a review too, I re-found my love of taking my camera out and about again. One day I shall re-start photography classes to use my camera more professionally. Although I don't over decorate my pages, only my daily pages really,or use heaps of post it notes for example, a select few, there are always bits to add to my binder to make it unique. Magnetic book marks like Oli clips and fun paper clips from hearts and bow ties to pink flamingos!! Just one or two in the front and Oli clips at the back, bring a bit of happiness to my day, without making my binder look too glitzy glam and inappropriate for a business meeting!I am able to store a select few favourite cards and a couple of photos too which remind me of those wonderful folks in my life. I have discovered Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, yep the social media rabbit hole through this hobby and life change too, not to say DIY Fish inserts on Etsy, which has brought me 'planner peace,' and indeed Etsy as a site itself for gift shopping too. People share tips about what works for them with digital and paper planning and the age old problem of planner size and there is always something new to try on out. The sharing of tips and ideas on here is simply phenomenal. Another big plus is the Webfinds vlogs and blogs, better than a magazine subscription and my Saturday and mid-week treat. I could go on and on. Thank you seems too small a word, but I'll say it anyway. THANK YOU PHILOFAXY for it all. xx

  3. I can’t remember what I was doing a year ago without Facebook reminding me, and you want to know what I was going ten years ago? My earliest comment is from 2008, so I may have found Philofaxy before then. :)

  4. I found Philofaxy thru Google! It was definitely sometime before the summer of 2007. That is when I went to England for a week and stopped in to visit the Filofax store in Covent Garden. I clearly remember telling the saleswoman that the store was "nirvana" to the readers of Philofaxy.

  5. Late 2005 or early 2006, I was trawling to find articles from people who used Time Manager or the Filofax Time Management system. I stumbled on the original Philofaxer’s blog and have been here ever since!

  6. I found Filofax in 2004 as I was watching one youtube talking about rose Filofax finsberry pocket size as finance planner/wallet. I start search Filofax and product reviews on google and stumbled into Philofaxy website. I enjoy the free printable the site offers which helps me to find my size before I jump on buying, discovered great brands, Gillio and VDS and also make some good planner friends and attend a few events. Thanks Steve for the hard work you put on this site and the planner community. We all benefit a lot from you :)

  7. I read the book Getting Things Done by David Allen back in 2009 & decided that a nice leather notebook might a good way to keep everything together. Whilst I'd vaguely heard of Filofax before that, it wasn't something that I'd considered buying. Whilst doing a search for 'refillable leather notebook', I came across Philofaxy & the rest is history!

  9. Can't really remember how I got here initially - suppose it was just searching for something flofax-y. (Reasonable enough as it turned out.)
Thanks for the link back to the start of all this though.
I read on a bit and found some gems I either never read or forgot, like this opener...
"Some days, I worry about world peace. Some days, I worry about my family. Most days, though, I worry about what writing implement I should carry in the lone pen loop in my Filofax."

  10. A question. I seem to remember reading in the dim and distant past, that one's main planner core, ie appointments section, in my case week to view,is better placed in the middle of a binder, something to do with writing near the rings I think it was. Have I got this right? In the order of tabs, what is the order you prefer and why? Steve, does my memory serve me correctly here? Planning for 2018 and my next optimum
    layout. Thanks folks. xxxx

  11. I was a hitchhiker via The Hitchhikers Guide to the Plannerverse. I just started last October. I don't know how I survived 48 yrs without planning. The community here is amazing!

I started with an A5 Fusion thinking it would be good traveling in my work bag. Thanks to Anita I am a lover of vintage. Give me my Ascot with its smooth leather glory! My Fusion is now my 12 yr old's journal. :-)

Long live the beings of the Plannerverse!

Thank you all for your wealth of knowledge to our planner community!!!

  12. Question. . . does anyone know of a non-custom planner that exists that has a Filofax Ascot inside layout but also includes the slip pocket like what's on the left behind CC slots of the Holborns? Also is there a list somewhere of the Filofaxes that were "Made in the USA"?

    Thank you!

  13. I had a Franklin, then a FIlo and now a Levenger Circa. Seeking planner peace is stressful and this sure helps for a quick reference on anything related.

  14. Stumbled across both Philofsxy and VDS by accident when I was returning to ring bound organisers approximately 3 years ago...probably as a result of a Google search
