Free For All Friday No 571 by Laurie

Is it too early to start talking about holiday preparations??

November and December are always so busy for me, I'm already thinking about ways to try to make it easier on myself this year.

One way I do this is to streamline my holiday preparations. I keep holiday-related pages in my Filofax with lists of people to send cards to, a 5 week countdown with reminders of what needs done each week in the lead-up to Christmas (including deadlines on mailing cards and packages to my overseas friends and family so they will arrive on time), gift ideas, etc. I keep these pages with my December weekly pages. Then when the holidays are over, I just move those pages to next December so they are there when I need them. This keeps me from having to reinvent the wheel every year.

Do you have a holidays section in your Filofax?

Or is it too early to talk about the holidays yet??

  1. Although North American’s refer to the “holidays”, it’s not a phrase widely used in Europe. We still say Merry Christmas rather than “Happy Holidays”!

As someone who always works over the festive period (its our busiest fortnight in our cottages), my Filofaxes have been in full use for months planning Christmas changeover days, staff leave, rosters, laundry collections, recycling bin days etc. I like to see the full picture on a monthly chart accompanied by key notes.

Far from being too soon, everything is now in place and I’m planning for Christmas 2020 and New Year 2021 as our guests book from one year to the next!

  2. I have a Christmas section in my planner...pages for cards, present ideas, food etc. Plus more detailed diary pages for December. It's never too early to organise Christmas!

  3. My Peanuts Planner Co inserts are already in my planner and being filled on in. I have a small family, just me, dad and a few relatives and friends, yet every year feel incredibly stressed by it. I have spent the last 2 Christmases in hospital, both accidental and not planned procedures, so this Christmas I look forward to. I am hoping my Peanut plans will help me get ahead early and see the broader picture of what needs to be done! As a music teacher life is also full on with carolling and organizing concert events too usually. I think folks going to a hideaway holiday cottage have just the perfect solution to stress, escape, enjoy new surroundings and relax!!! xxxxx

  4. I do keep a holiday section, but for most of the year it lives in my home binder (which is personal rings, like my EDC for convenience). Around mid-October, I move it to my EDC binder and tab it with a page flag for easy reference. Mine has gift ideas, Elf on the Shelf ideas, holiday events to attend. It also has birthday planning info, because both of my children are December babies!
