Free For All Friday - No. 617 by Steve

A well known saying of any keen photographer (like myself) is that 'The best camera is the one you carry with you all the time'. For the majority of us these days, that will be your smart phone camera.

In the case of photography I'm no exception, I do carry my phone most places and often 'snap' the odd picture with it as I see things, it has become the easiest thing to do. I used to carry a small compact digital camera in my bag a few years ago, but when ever I went to use it the battery was exhausted! So I sold the camera in the end.

When it comes to planners/organisers, I recently said in a podcast, that the best planner was one you could carry everywhere with you and I guess that is also true.

How you achieve that will vary, what size you use and what format will depend on our individual needs. I've mainly used A5 and Personal, both sizes I've managed to carry most places but not both all of the time.

My experiment with personal size is continuing at the moment and I can carry that in my 'man bag' fairly easily. The A5 takes a little bit more thought, using a compact A5 with just the essential planner/information pages in it works for me.

What is your carry everywhere planner/organiser?

Of course it is Friday so feel free to discuss anything organiser related. Have a great weekend.

  1. I am always tempted by personal size due to its portability but I also love personal wide. Due to the pandemic I’ve not been able to test out my personal wide in the wild yet but I will see how portable it is one day!

  2. Definitely a Personal size. There is just “something” about the feel in my hand and the size, even when open, that works for me.
I’ve just had a brief “flirt” with pocket size and it’s useless (for me). I can’t even write my full name on a single line on those pages!!!!!

  3. Personal has my heart! I have both a5 and personal binders but I always reach for the personal size. It's easy to carry with me and I can put the necessary information in it without over filling it.

  4. I am loving my A6. Just right as Goldilocks would say. Steve, I want to ask you if Philofaxy have considered doing wallet cards for our planners that fit into credit card sized slots. There are some on the 8Lotus site, but pretty expensive. I know you can't do exactly the same because of copyright issues but could there be anything similar to print off for credit sized pockets or the longer taller pockets in our planners with 3-4 ideas incorporated in the taller ones? Just a thought here as the Lotus 8 Wallet cards are gorgeous, and very functional, but too expensive for me at the moment. I know you and Ray are the design boffins so thought I'd ask!!! Ta muchly. xx

    2. Butanben, have you had a play with the Canva app? Wallet cards are really easy to create and so much fun to play with your own designs, create the words you want so they’re really personalised.

  9. Kitty, yes that's it they call them wallet cards with goals, memo, routine, habits etc etc. A lovely site and great ideas I thought.Trying to work out how to afford them as handy for the credit card slots and can be carried around, for example when doing shopping out and about or at home tasks. Leaves room on the rings too cutting down on inserts I thought.
