I really enjoyed the look back through the archives on FFA Friday, thank you! Amazing how smartphones rose during that period promising to be The Answer and yet are now beset with hacking and privacy issues, as well as concerns about effects on society and younger people, meanwhile the trusty old ring binder still works at peak performance regardless. Everything has its place, and I love the internet as a development, but, like radium cigarettes, sometimes we get a bit too over-enthused and jump in the deep end!
ReplyDeleteI was just reading Paul's recent post (08 May 2023) about that gorgeous tan pigskin Filofax, what a beaut!
ReplyDeleteThis line got me thinking: "Some may say I should lock a rarity like this away..."
My great aunt was in the habit of keeping things for best, needless to say despite living to almost ninety, most of the "for best" category went unused, and that's not as sad as it may sound, she did have a full and interesting life. And maybe she enjoyed them in their own right, who knows? But it made me embrace the habit of never closing off parts of my life for a "me" I may never become, leaving the best and most beautiful things I own sitting on a shelf. Luckily the Venn diagram of things I love and things which are timeless is almost a perfect circle, and I try to buy with this in mind.
I'm sure that "Porky" is loving its second life in active service!
Thanks for your comments, I adopted this philosophy when I joined the FF community after someone (sorry I don't remember who!) Said "wear your diamonds". I do have a confession though - after a month on the front line with me at work I've had to remove Porky from front line duties after a very close shave with a leaking biro... don't worry though, it's still serving, as my 'life in one binder' project.
