Free For All Friday - No. 825 by Steve

La Rentree happens next week here in France.  This is when all school children return on Monday and also a lot of businesses will be reopening after their summer breaks. It's like a return to normal for us.

As usual for me I've not managed to do as much as I would have liked to get done through the summer holidays. Various excuses/reasons, the weather... too hot or too wet (June/July) but if the weather stays fine during September I should be able to catch up!

What do you have in your To-Do list at this time of year. Have you got your inserts for 2025 printed yet?

As usual it is Friday so please feel free to discuss anything Filofax related.

  1. Hi Steve ! I live in France as well and love la rentrée: pencils, pens, Post-It, you name it. It's a happy season, right before Halloween and Christmas. I'm starting a new job so I'm making sure I have everything I need. Cheers, Marion.

  2. 🎉Happy Friday Steve! 🎉 ...and Philofaxers!! My Personal Official Year begins with my Birthday Anniversary Month. The last quarter of the year until February are holiday season. It's annual life assessment review and goals planning. The S.M.A.R.T. Goals domains are Health, Location, Vocation, and Education. In addition, it is not just for 2025, but beyond. I'm pondering obtaining the five-year journal. I'm testing Plotter Refills for the first time. -Jessie

  3. I’ve only been using ring organisers for 5 years but I’m a total convert. I spent the last year in an A5 Moterm but I’ve returned to my personal sized tabac VSD Touch Me as I’ve realised, in terms of layout and portability, it is my perfect planner... apart from one detail - the colour.

I wish I’d been able to buy a Touch Me before the Menthe colour was discontinued. I haven’t found anything similar from any other brands. I know I’d never have looked another planner if I’d got my hands on one of those.

Does anyone else have one dream organiser that they’d love to own?

  4. I was lucky enough to get my dream organizer about 2 years ago. It's a brown Buckingham 2MLF 7/8 that has just one full-height pocket inside the front and back covers. Perfect.

  5. I'm celebrating La Rentree with my first-ever Filofax slim. About a week and a half ago, I discovered that Filofax US had the Chester on sale at 40% off, in a lovely dark red. I grabbed one before I could second-guess myself. I will be breaking it in during a trip with my sisters to New England at the end of September. I'm very excited.

  6. To what extent do you combine electronic planning with your Filofax? I just don’t get electronic calendars: if I even remember to look at them, I get distracted by the internet (including Philofaxy!). As a ADHD’er, I depend on my structured paper diary to “feel” time. I’m a freelancer, with a part-time job in hospitality, and I often need to respond to offers of work at short notice, so I keep my planner in my pocket or a belt bag. I also need loads of blank pages, and Filofax gives me the perfect combination of flexibility and structure. But even my “pocket” Filofax is bulky to carry around while I’m on shift. I wonder how many paper planning people use electronic calendars for long term planning, so they only have to carry their phone around. I’d be interested to know how others manage this conundrum.

  7. Although we don't have the pure joy of La Rentree here in the UK, for Mrs P and I it has always been our 'new year'. So tomorrow we'll be having lunch at one of our favourite pubs and discussing our winter projects, as the prospect of shorter days means we move to more indoor activity. We already have some big stuff coming up but there will be personal development projects to add, plus our first trip outside the UK for a number of years.

In all of this I'll keep my planner central and will be taking it to lunch with me.
