Philofaxy Meet Up - London - 21 November 2015

As I mentioned on Friday, the meet up in London yesterday was five years almost to the day of the very first one we had in London in 2010

After a fraught journey to London on Friday evening, which I will spare you the details of, just to say I arrived at my destination 4 hours latter than planned, but safe and sound, so I can't complain.

Saturday morning after breakfast I made my way across London with what seemed like half of the population to Oxford Circus to get to our usual venue, Vapiano in Great Portland Street.

It was cold but I sat outside and waited for most of the people to arrive. At just after mid day we headed in to the warm and took up our usual tables upstairs at the back of the restaurant.

It wasn't long before the organisers started to be disgorged from bags and backpacks as well as other goodies.

We were joined by a few late arrivals but everyone settled in very quickly and lots of people were chatting together. Eventually I think the pangs of hunger chimed in and people started to order some food and drinks and things calmed down for a while.

I am always surprised by the things people bring along to show others. I was a little limited by weight and bulk as to what I could bring. However I did manage to give away two of the new Rapseco paper punches, which was very pleasing for the new owners and lighted my bag a little!

Jené always has a few surprises in her bag and Saturday was no exception, she had found a new unused Filofax radio calculator, this dates from 1991 we think.

We continued our discussions after our food and a few people stayed on in the warm rather than venturing with us to Paperchase in Tottenham Court Road.

Thank you to everyone who came along it was a fun day.

  6. Gosh! The Radio Calculator! I had forgotten about that! It was definitely 1991 as I remember toying with treating myself to one as I had just secured a new job that year. However, it was ridiculously expensive (about £40 if I remember correctly - and that's at 25 years ago prices). Also, it only received Medium Wave (what we now usually call AM). Even then, most UK stations were broadcasting on VHF (FM) and the government was making them switch off their duplicate frequencies (e.g.: Radio 1 was only available on FM after 1994). This made the Radio Calculator largely redundant even before it was launched!

  7. Lovely photos to look at all the Filofaxes and other brands. So the new model of the Rapesco 66-P? The post introducing the update said suppliers would restock with this new version of the same model number...how can I be assured of receiving the latest version?
