Free for All Friday No. 425 by Nan

The year is young, and most of us Philofaxers are working with new setups. We may have visions of things we want to do differently, or may have precious new leather organizers in hand.

How is it going so far? Any surprises?

Me, I'll have a report on my 2017 adventures coming soon!

Of course, since it's Friday, all ring-bound organizer discussion is welcome.

  1. Hi! Looking forward to your 2017 reveal! : )

I swapped out my mini binder for the new year. Same system inside though, so not too exciting! I did a new post at my little blog if anyone is interested: Tangerine for 2017 at vanilla folders.

  2. Hello, I'm a newcomer here, so don't know if this has been asked before. I have a Silhouette Cameo electronic cutting machine and have just cut out my first set of monthly inserts. Does anyone else use an electronic cutter to print and cut their inserts? If anyone is interested I could write up a post on my blog about it.

    1. I've seen various cutters on craft TV channels - it would never have crossed my mind to use one for inserts. I, for one, would be very interested to hear how and what you're doing!

    2. Welcome, Janet!

Sounds interesting....so, would be great to learn more about what you do and how long it takes, etc.

      Thanks,

    3. I'll put something together. Meantime my colleague on the Silhouette Design Team has published this in the past week. http://silhouetteuk.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/double-sided-printing-of-beautiful.html (I hope it's ok to share links, apologies if not).

  3. Hi, Happy New Year. I thought I'd try the Recollections inserts. Totally wrong for me. Big surprise for me, I absolutely have to have lines and defined spaces. Otherwise my handwriting and thoughts go all over the place. Then, there's the Sunday start. Never thought I would be so picky. Spent yesterday morning printing and re-writing my month calendars. Whew!! Hope everyone's first week of 2017 hasn't been so "off."

  4. This year I'm experimenting with A5 Filofax, ochre Malden binder. I usually use Franklin Covey stuff so things are a little different. I'm used to 2 pages per day so this week on a page has got me a little messed up.

  5. Still in my pocket Malden with Moleskine weekly diary inserts (week on left/notes on right) It really clicked last year so if figured, 'not broke, don't fix'! :) :)

    1. Do you just deconstruct a Moleskine notebook? That's a very interesting idea!

  6. I designed an original yearly insert with a large space of the day on lined sheets and a weekly format on grid paper. I really thought that I would favor the traditional yearly format but I chose the weekly one because of the efficiency and assets of grids. Although I can see the benefits of writing notations of a schedule or other area on a large dated space I wanted a different more streamlined view of the week without numerous symbols or colors for categories. I use some symbols on my weekly insert.

The grids allow noting a recurring activity once and then indicating completion in the boxes of the days. On other formats one can signify that activity with a symbol but one must remember or view a code. I can quickly find certain information because I am not searching for the specific notation on many days as other inserts. On my weekly format of grids I can easily include January 1 on the first week of January 2017. It is the box next to Monday January 2. Monday is the first day of the week on my insert. On other layouts one must include the last days of December 2016 on the first week of January 2017.
