  1. I began with a B5 planner years ago, then when I had teeny children and a stuffed nappy bag, I downsized to a Mini. This has worked well for me, as I have small handwriting.

I have recently acquired an A5 planner. Should I keep it, or give it away for Christmas? It's very attractive, and I am tempted, especially as Filofax will be discontinuing their Mini planners (and the inserts in time, I suppose). Who uses an A5?

    1. Hi
I've been using an A5 for several years now. I find it is convenient size, easy to create your own inserts for.
Filofax have already discontinued Mini organisers, they still sell the inserts for them at the moment. It is however possible to buy other brands of Mini's
Please see this post for details: http://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2017/07/mini-size-organisers.html

  2. OK, I'd love some suggestions on this. I've recently had to reluctantly admit that managing calendar/key info and to-dos, for me personally, is best done electronically. I'm on the go a lot and need to have my info available at a glance all the time - I can't seem to settle on a paper-based set-up that works for me as far as time management and keeping track of key info is concerned, and I can't always count on having my Filo with me when it's needed. So I now rely on iPhone and MacBook apps for a lot of the stuff I used to use my Filos for. (Is that a hiss of 'traitor' I hear? lol) HOWEVER... this leaves me with a dilemma as I absolutely don't want to ditch my Filos, I love the aesthetics of them way too much! I just need to think of alternative uses for them, rather than the typical diary/time tracker/info keeper type of setup, I'd like to use my Filos for fun and creative stuff. I've already got one set up to hold my creative writing notes, thinking of using another as a gratitude journal, maybe one for birthday and Christmas planning, may turn my A5s into scrapbooks of some description... I just love them too much to get rid of them! Anyone got any other suggestions as to how to make use of a Filofax other than for its 'usual' purpose?

    1. Whilst there are a few purists on here who would never own a smartphone, tablet or Mac, I would estimate that 95% of us have a balance between paper and digital. It’s all down to the individual. I’ve gone much more App-minded in recent years and use Informant and Evernote for all my events, contacts, projects,to-dos and information data. I could go totally digital, but, like you, still want to use paper. So, long-range planning, event planning, mind mapping and note taking is what I use my organisers for.

  5. I've seen folks use their planners for keeping knitting and crochet patterns too, patchwork quilting and cross stitch sampler ideas. I've turned one of my A5's into a puzzle book and small colouring in for adults postcards holder.I actually used it just yesterday to do word wheel puzzles, as I was in casualty for 5 hours, foot fracture unfortunately, so in a solid cast now, but it passed the time and is handy for those odd long train journeys too.
