The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Plannerverse - Episode 131 - Wearables

Wearables

We have worn wrist watches for many years, in the last 10 years these have been replaced by activity watches and more recently smart watches connected to our smart phones. What do these offer to person that plans in a paper planner? Do they deserve a place in our lives?

Or are they something we should avoid and just use a normal conventional wrist watch.

  1. Much as I love paper planners, I also have my Apple Watch to thank for identifying a hitherto undetected heart valve problem. I’ve just upgraded from Apple Watch 3 to Ultra.

    1. Other watches and options are available and capable of detecting such issues. We've got a good BP monitor that detects irregular heat beat issues possibly more accurately than a wristbourne optical device. It's just not worn 24/7.

Can I ask how your watch detected it? What I mean is how did it let you know there was an issue there? Did you get an alert on an app or on the watch? I believe there's a few apps that use fitness watch hrm metrics to detect such issues but not many watch brands own apps do that.

    2. The initial alerts were on the watch when I woke up. It gave me the times and prompted me to look at the health app on my phone. I was able to do an ECG on the Apple Watch and the PDF with the traces that I had done I took with me to see the doctor.
At first I didn't believe what I was seeing so we tried another heart monitor, but that wasn't detecting my heart beat correctly. So I was very pleased to have been wearing my Apple watch.
