Free For All Tuesday No. 224

  1. Good morning all! I have a few questions about A5's. I am considering moving up to an A5 from the personal, however, I have a few questions regarding the size. I need something larger, but not as large as the Finsbury (which I have noticed is larger than other A5's). I have looked at the Boston and read the review here on Philofaxy. I like the size, but would like another color besides black. Can anyone recommend a good A5 model that is close in size to the Boston? Any help would be appreciated! Just a side note....I do wish they had not discontinued the Finchley's....I believe that would have been a perfect fit for me. Happy Tuesday!

    1. I have a Finchley A5 and I've found it just about perfect in every way. I tried a Luxe also but it didn't compare, so my recommendation would be to put out a call for a Finchley.
p.s. I'm after a Finchley personal if anyone has one they don't want!

    2. I have an A5 Luxe in Ebony, and I like it very much. Quick review:
Pros: lovely colour, lovely smell, perfect ringsize, fairly lightweight (empty: 318 g), 3,2 x 23,5 x 19 cm.
Cons: doesn't lay flat, the penloops touches the inserts.
But an A5 is heavy if you take it with you everywhere like I do. 580 g is a lot to carry.

    3. Thank you ladies! Amanda, do you recommend a good website where I can place a wanted ad for a Finchley?

    4. Amy,

Click on Adspot near the top of this webpage and it will take you to page where there are listings for Filofaxes for sale.

In addition there's info there if you want to request a 'Filofax Wanted' listing there.....

      Hope this helps...

    5. I have some A5 (Finsbury, Original, Domino), the "smallest" is the Domino.

  2. Can anyone point me to a bespoke agenda maker who won't charge hundreds of pounds and who will do a custom size?

    1. Has to be Van Der Spek! For the money you will not find better quality or service.

    2. +1 for van der Spek.....recently received several custom made binders and they are beautiful and very well crafted.

Petra and vdS are great to work with.....

Only hard part is waiting for your binder to be made.....but it's worth it if you want something special.

  3. I am running my planner blog, www.liveloveplanners.blogspot.com, and I'm worried that the appearance of my website is messy and overwhelming looking. Should I opt for a cleaner design?

    1. Everyone's different, but I do find the decorative background a bit distracting from the posts....at least to my ol' eyes......

      Hope this helps.

    2. It looks fine, actually very nice, to me, but the main text font should probably be larger or heavier or both. I find it difficult to read.

  4. First of all: thanks to Steve and Ray for creating and putting the source files for diary inserts in the first place, these are a great help to me :-)

I tried to download the source file of D2P for Personal size on Personal paper but I got the one for printing on A4 - is this a mistake or would I have to reset printer options?

    1. That is correct, they are all A4, because when you use booklet printing your printer will scale them down to A5 automatically. If you are printing direct on to A5 paper (which I do) You set it to 70%

  5. Thanks Steve for the quick answer. I was under the impression that the personal-sized source file would be printed on personal-sized paper, not A5 paper. I wanted to skip cutting :-)

    1. Ah sorry I missed that small detail.. yes the personal size on personal size paper should be personal size, if it isn't coming up as personal size, you need to add a custom paper/page size on your machine. Details in the link on how to do that.
