  1. This extract from the 1937 catalogue amused me:
    Catching and Filing Ideas
When a good idea, or a new, original or unusual idea strikes you, regard it as an Angel's visit, chain the Angel to Lefax. Better take time to catch one than to see a thousand flit by and be lost forever. Write down the Idea on a Sheet while it is fresh in your memory, and file for future reference in the filing box. Do not hesitate, thinking that at some future time you will recall it, for seldom this is possible.
These ideas thus filed may enormously enrich your future business or professional work.

    1. Yes indeed, there are some gems of information in the older catalogues!

  2. I've been in contact with Gillio recently in connection with Amica Mini model which is out of stock in either colour. I've left my details but they say they have no idea when items will be back in stock. Their restocking policy seems a bit hit and miss I must say for a company which supplies quality products. Has anyone else experienced similar problems or delays? It would be nice to know an approximate waiting time.

    1. Sadly Steve, that is the way they run their business. Made to order I find is much better for things not in stock, there is less uncertainty. You order the item and it is delivered within 30 days, but Gillio don't offer that sort of service.

People have waited 1-2 years for some Gillio items to come back in stock, I don't think I would personally be that patient myself.

  3. I agree with you Steve, that sort of wait is not feasible. I've seen a nice mini size in very similar leather by a London company called Herringbone. Does that mean anything to you? The leather quality looks superb.

  4. Steve, if t'other Steve will allow it on the thread, have you got a link to the Herringbone site? I've Googled it and can't find anything out and I'm curious now, especially as I'm looking for potential dad birthday present ideas for March. There is also a Gillio sellers' group on Facebook if that is possible for you to look at. Sometimes second hand and on the Philofaxy Adspot here, of course can work on out.Gillio hold back so much stock it seems and potentially lose so much custom too. Can't understand it myself.

    2. Hello Jane! I don't have anymore info than you actually and I don't do social media so I can't follow your suggestions. SMW below knows more than both of us by the look of it. I've sent you a mail at the only address I have so I hope you've received it.

  5. Herringbone organisers are beautifully made, I have two, one pocket and one personal. They are old ones that I picked up on Ebay over the years, and are the ones that I use most regularly.
I do not know what the quality on the new ones are like, I would be very interested in the link as I have found little information online.
Happy to take some pictures of mine if you like.
    Regards SMW

    1. Thank you for your comments, it's nice to know that they are good quality. I'm watching one at the moment so assume it's an older one. Are they still in business?

    2. I don't believe so, they have no web presence if so. I have spent quite a while looking for more information about them but with no success.
The ones that I own state that they are made in London England, and made from fine leather. That is printed in gold lettering on the left. They both have a full length back pocket and a magnetic popper clasp. The rings are very sturdy and close perfectly.
