  2. Does anyone know of another A5 slimline or compact filofax, other than the Heritage A5? I am looking for something slimmer, but cannot justify the £120 cost of the Heritage. For background info, I use a hybrid electronic / paper planning system and still like to write notes and have quick reference info available on paper. I currently use an A5 Holborn, which is a bit bulky in my every day carry bag. I have looked at the clipbooks which are slimmer, but lack pockets for business cards etc and they don't have pen loops. Any advice you can give me would be gratefully received.

    1. Note that the Heritage also does not have any pockets for business cards etc. The flyleaf could be used but it's bulky, a waste of limited ring space in many people's opinion, and the pen loop is a complete joke. Does your solution have to be a leather ring binder? I am finding the Filofax A5 Notebooks (more akin to disc-bound systems than ring-bound systems) increasingly useful. They are slim and light with no wasted space and the flyleaf is actually useful. It has no pen loop but it's easy enough to install one.

    2. Thanks for your reply Graham. I did not realise that there were no pockets in a Heritage A5, makes the £120 even more excessive! How easy is it to add pages that have been printed to a notebook? Presumably it also means buying a punch?

    3. What about Filofax Chameleon A5 with 2.5 cm rings? It provides a lot of card slots and pockets inside the covers. I use it and LOVE IT!!!

    4. This is exact what I needed a few years ago and did a two day post on here: <a href="https://philofaxy.blogspot.com/2012/07/guest-post-in-search-of-ultimate.html?m=1”>Philofaxy 2012 Post</a>

A5 Flex covers regularly come up for sale cheaply and it’s now easy to buy a 16mm Filofax ring set that would work. A cheap slim A5 with loads of pockets!

    5. Hi Marcus. Maybe you could one of these (https://filofax.co.uk/organisers/organiser-accessories/organiser-pen-holder-a5-filofax.html) to your suggested Clipbook solution, giving you 2 "slip" pockets AND a pen holder, then you could add of these (https://filofax.co.uk/organisers/organiser-accessories/business-card-holder-filofax.html) for your business cards. An alternative pen holder could be one of these (https://filofax.co.uk/accessories/flex-by-filofax-pen-holder-filofax.html) glued onto the inside of the front and / or rear cover of the Clipbook, giving an option for one or two pens to you. It would also stiffen the cover thus preventing any warping while the Clipbook is in your EDC. Hope this helps. I used the latter pen loop option, with a business card holder and a top opening envelope (https://filofax.co.uk/organisers/organiser-accessories/transparent-envelope-top-opening-filofax.html) added in. They all fit nicely within the dimensions of the Clipbook covers.

  3. Ah. Well. There's the rub. Adding and removing pages is very easy, but the punch is an issue. The Filofax punch is currently not available from Filofax itself (you can still get it from Amazon etc.) but be aware that it gets quite a lot of negative reviews - it will only punch two 80 gsm paper pages at a time and tends to get easily clogged. I'm wondering whether its non-availability at the moment is due to it getting a re-design or better quality manufacture. The Staples Arc disc system punch is absolutely superb, but the slit it makes between the edge of the paper and the hole is larger than that required with the Filofax notebook (because the Arc discs have a filled middle), so though the pages punched with an Arc punch will fit into the Filofax Notebook, they don't cling on as well or for as long. I have accepted that as a necessarily evil at the moment (and loose pages don't worry me too much), but that would certainly not suit everybody. So yes, you'd need a punch - let's hope the new Filofax stock, when it arrives, works better than the previous batch!

    1. Which one are you looking at Graham, the plastic one or the full metal one?

  4. Thanks Graham. I sense a trip to the local stationary store to do some comparison!

  5. I just purchased some new inserts. Does anyone else feel the urge to get new inserts when the weather warms up?
